Unlabelled: Erythema multiforme is an inflammatory skin and mucosal disease mainly related to infectious agents such as Herpes simplex virus, , though it can also be "idiopathic". The characteristic skin lesions are typical or atypical acral raised target lesions. The oral mucosa can be affected, alone or in combination with other mucosal/cutaneous sites, sometimes causing extreme pain, severely impacting food intake, and warranting hospitalization.

Article Synopsis
  • Syphilis cases among blood donors in France have been rising, with a significant uptick observed in 2022 compared to earlier years.
  • Data from over 45 million donations (2007-2022) revealed that the infection rate was notably higher in males, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM), whose risk factor percentage increased over time.
  • A non-treponemic test (NTT) was used to assess infection recency, but the data were insufficient to reliably differentiate between recent and past infections among the syphilis-positive donors.

We report a rare case of confirmed early neurosyphilis with serofast state in HIV-negative patient, with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus. Syphilitic meningitis was diagnosed initially on serology and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis. The patient had persistently raised non-treponemal titres on serum with negative CSF venereal disease research laboratory result, following treatment during 3 years of follow-up.

Background: Increased rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are reported among men who have sex with men (MSM) and new interventions are needed. We aimed to assess whether post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) with doxycycline could reduce the incidence of chlamydia or syphilis (or both) and whether the meningococcal group B vaccine (4CMenB) could reduce the incidence of gonorrhoea in this population.

Methods: ANRS 174 DOXYVAC is a multicentre, open-label, randomised trial with a 2 × 2 factorial design conducted at ten hospital sites in Paris, France.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study of 120 patients showed that 36% achieved complete cutaneous remission after one year, with oral corticosteroids and a hydroxychloroquine/topical steroids combo yielding the best results.
  • * The findings suggest using hydroxychloroquine and topical steroids as the best first-line treatment due to the negative side effects associated with systemic corticosteroids, with lupus pernio being a predictor of poor response.

  • The Ritux 3 trial showed that rituximab is effective and safe as a first-line treatment for pemphigus, although long-term follow-up data was previously lacking.!* -
  • This 7-year follow-up study evaluated the long-term outcomes for patients treated with rituximab alongside prednisone versus those treated with prednisone alone, focusing on disease-free survival and relapse rates.!* -
  • Results indicated that 93% of patients in the rituximab group achieved complete remission without corticosteroids, showing significantly higher disease-free survival and lower relapse rates compared to the prednisone-only group.!*

Background And Aims: The endoscopic workup of dysphagia can lead to the diagnosis of atypical esophagitis, with thickened esophageal mucosa, strictures, mucosal exudates, furrows, and sloughing. While these aspects suggest eosinophilic esophagitis, pathology might not report the presence of eosinophils, but rather chronic inflammation, with spongiosis, parakeratosis, and lymphocytic infiltrate. We aimed to report the management of this disease and assess the prevalence of associated dermatological conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed severe cases of crusted and profuse scabies from 95 inpatients across 22 French hospitals from 2009 to 2015, highlighting a higher prevalence in elderly individuals living in institutions.
  • - Many patients had a history of misdiagnosis, with 43% initially diagnosed with conditions like eczema or psoriasis, and the average time to identify severe scabies was about 3 months despite prior treatments.
  • - The research found significant variability in diagnosis and treatment practices, with most patients having comorbidities, stressing the need for standardized approaches in managing severe scabies cases.

Reprogrammed metabolism is regarded as a hallmark of cancer and offers a selective advantage to tumor cells during carcinogenesis. The redox equilibrium is necessary for growth, spread and the antioxidant pathways are boosted following Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production to prevent cell damage in tumor cells. Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), the etiologic agent of Kaposi sarcoma KS and primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), is an oncogenic virus that disrupts cell survival-related molecular signaling pathways leading to immune host evasion, cells growths, angiogenesis and inflammatory tumor-environment.

Importance: A new treatment for cystic fibrosis combining 3 CFTR modulators-elexacaftor (ELX), tezacaftor (TEZ), and ivacaftor (IVA)-has recently been approved for cystic fibrosis treatment. The cutaneous adverse effects following treatment with this combination are poorly described in the literature.

Objective: To describe the clinicopathological features and treatment response of ELX-TEZ-IVA-associated acneiform eruptions in patients with cystic fibrosis.

BackgroundDiagnoses of bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have increased in France since the 2000s. The main strategy to control STI transmission is recommending/facilitating access to condom use, testing, and antibiotic treatments.AimThis study analyses the evolution of STI testing in the private sector in France from 2006 to 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • Multiple assays are used for diagnosing neurosyphilis (NS) from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), but there's no definitive 'gold standard' test.
  • This study assessed two PCR tests and three serological techniques on CSF samples from 143 patients suspected of NS.
  • While molecular tests showed high specificity, none had great sensitivity; serological tests like treponemal tests excelled in sensitivity but were less specific, indicating the need for a combined approach of clinical assessment and lab tests for accurate NS diagnosis.

Background: Eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) is an extremely rare disease with polymorphic presentation and prognosis.

Objective: To further investigate EF features.

Methods: We performed a retrospective multicentre study of EF patients from 2013 to 2019, clustered patients using multivariate correspondence analysis, and sought prognosis factors.

The two clinico-pathological patterns are 'Sweet-like syndrome' and 'Multiple COVID-Arm'. 'Sweet-like syndrome' presents clinically as erythematous and oedematous papules or plaques, sometimes developing vesiculation or bullae. Histology shows classical Sweet syndrome with a diffuse dermal neutrophilic infiltrate, or an infiltrate of histiocyte-like immature myeloid cells consistent with a histiocytoid Sweet syndrome.
