Background: Febrile infants frequently present to the emergency department (ED) and account for a vulnerable population at significant risk for serious bacterial infection. Appropriate evaluation and management are key to favorable outcomes but can present challenges for providers, especially in EDs where ill children are infrequently seen and pediatric-trained staff may not be available. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is integrated into the care of adults in the ED but is less commonly used for infants.
