Purpose: To investigate the relationship between spinal cord anatomy and the risk of curve progression in mild to moderate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

Methods: We prospectively included patients presenting with mild or moderate AIS (< 40 degrees). Irrespective of curve severity, patients underwent 3-dimensional MRI and were followed until skeletal maturity or surgery.

Aims: Pelvic discontinuity is a rare but increasingly common complication of total hip arthroplasty (THA). This single-centre study evaluated the performance of custom-made triflange acetabular components in acetabular reconstruction with pelvic discontinuity by determining: 1) revision and overall implant survival rates; 2) discontinuity healing rate; and 3) Harris Hip Score (HHS).

Methods: Retrospectively collected data of 38 patients (39 hips) with pelvic discontinuity treated with revision THA using a custom-made triflange acetabular component were analyzed.

Chordoma is a very rare malignant tumor, with a phenotype that recapitulates notochord, and is chiefly located in the axial skeleton with only few cases reported in the extra-axial skeleton and soft tissues. The diagnosis can be challenging for both clinicians, radiologists and pathologists because of the rarity of tumor, its unspecific radiological pattern and histomorphological similarities to other tumors like extra-skeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma, soft tissue myoepithelioma and metastatic adenocarcinomas, more so on small biopsies. We present a case of a recurrent extra-axial chordoma with a prominent soft tissue component in the left thumb around proximal phalanx of an 80-year-old man, with detailed report of the histopathological, imaging and most importantly molecular features, which are in conformity with the typical profile of notochordal neoplasms.

Background: Both 18F-fluoro-deoxy-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are routinely used in the evaluation of memory clinic patients. Hybrid PET/MR systems now allow simultaneous PET and MRI imaging within the duration of the PET emission scan.

Purpose: To compare the diagnostic yield of PET/MRI using an abbreviated MR protocol with that of separate PET and CT in a mixed memory clinic population, and the propagated influences on clinical diagnosis and patient management.

Objective: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-verified neural axis abnormalities (NAAs) have been described in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), and several risk factors have been associated with the presence of NAAs in AIS patients. However, the clinical significance of these findings is unclear. The purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence of NAAs in a large consecutive cohort of AIS patients and to evaluate the clinical significance of previously proposed risk factors.

Substitutes for bone grafts experience increasing popularity, but the need for defect-filling following simple curettage of benign bone lesions is controversial. In this study, we wish to objectively report the radiological changes following bone defect-filling using a composite ceramic bone graft substitute, as well as the clinical results and complications. We evaluated 35 surgically treated benign bone lesions with subsequent defect-filling using two variants of a composite ceramic bone graft substitute (CERAMENT|BONE VOID FILLER or CERAMENT|G, BONESUPPORT AB, SWEDEN).

Brain parenchymal extravasation of contrast has been described after infusion of larger amounts of iodinated X-ray contrast agent. We describe a case in which a patient after infusion of 500 ml iomeprole 350 mg/ml developed neurological symptoms and a subsequent cerebral computed tomography (CT) scan was interpreted as subarachnoid haemorrhage. The patient was fully recovered within 48 hours, and a follow-up CT scan 26 hours later showed no signs of haemorrhage.

Article Synopsis
  • - PAC is a rare condition where tissue from Meckel's cave herniates into the petrous apex, but its exact cause is still unclear.
  • - A patient experienced symptoms like facial pain, hearing loss, and cerebrospinal fluid leakage, which were linked to PAC through imaging tests.
  • - The patient underwent a successful surgery using the middle fossa approach to correct the issue.

Background: The pathogenesis for colorectal cancer remains unresolved. A growing body of evidence suggests a direct correlation between cyclooxygenase enzyme expression, prostaglandin E2 metabolism and neoplastic development. Thus further understanding of the regulation of epithelial functions by prostaglandin E2 is needed.

Background: Colonic diverticular disease is a bothersome condition with an unresolved pathogenesis. It is unknown whether a neuroepithelial dysfunction is present. The aim of the study was two-fold; (1) to investigate colonic epithelial ion transport in patients with diverticulosis and (2) to adapt a miniaturized Modified Ussing Air-Suction (MUAS) chamber for colonic endoscopic biopsies.
