Purpose: The main benefits of robot-assisted transaxillary thyroid surgery are to overcome the technical limitations of other endoscopic procedures for this surgical pathology and to avoid any cervical skin incision. This article describes the first experience of a Romanian team with the endoscopic robot-assisted thyroid surgery.

Material And Methods: We used the da Vinci SI intuitive surgical system to carry out 50 thyroid operations: 33 unilateral total lobectomies with isthmectomy (TL), 8 unilateral total lobectomies, with contralateral subtotal lobectomy, and 9 total thyroidectomies.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary malignant cardiac tumors, though rare, have a high mortality rate and often present with vague symptoms that delay diagnosis.
  • A 26-year-old woman was diagnosed with a right atrium angiosarcoma and surprisingly achieved a favorable outcome after receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgical resection.
  • Diagnosis was confirmed through imaging techniques (CT, echocardiography) and surgical biopsy, revealing a pathologic cardiac mass causing significant health problems.

Aim: to estimate the comparative value of conventional radiology and cardiac catheterization in establishing the diagnosis and severity of primary and secondary pulmonary hypertension. We also tried to achieve some correlations between the radiological and invasive parameters.

Methods: we performed a retrospective study over an 11-years time period, analyzing data from a group of 14 patients diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension compared to a matched group of 20 patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension secondary to mitral and aortic valvular disease.

The mortality of patients with morbid obesity is 2 to 12 times higher according to age, comorbidities and the degree of obesity. Surgical treatment has proved to be the only type of treatment that has led to favorable long-term results. We present the therapeutic strategy used in a 39 year old obese patient with BMI=39.

We report an unusual case of connective tissue disease characterized by the coexistence of signs, symptoms and immunological features of 4 defined autoimmune diseases: systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), systemic sclerosis (SSc), polymyositis (PM) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A 53-year-old female was admitted in our clinic with massive polyserositis (pretamponade) as well as skin, joint, muscular lesions and altered general status. The problem we found was the difficulty of including this case in a known clinical entity; SSc/SLE/PM//RA overlap syndrome and mixed connective tissue disease were the two most plausible diagnoses.
