Electrical storm (ES) is a life-threatening condition of recurrent ventricular arrhythmias (VA) in a short period of time. Percutaneous stellate ganglion blockade (SGB) is frequently used - however the efficacy is undefined. The objective of our systematic review was to determine the efficacy of SGB in reducing VA events and mortality among patients with ES.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how accurately central venous oxygen saturation (Scvo2) can estimate mixed venous oxygen saturation (Svo2) and cardiac index in critically ill patients.
  • Researchers conducted a systematic search of multiple databases, ultimately identifying 18 relevant studies involving nearly 2000 patients that met their inclusion criteria.
  • The findings suggest that while Scvo2 is moderately reliable for predicting Svo2, its effectiveness in estimating cardiac index is less certain and may vary based on factors like sampling location and the presence of sepsis.

Methods: A bibliometric review of RCTs published in top medical, surgical, or nephrology journals was conducted using MEDLINE and EMBASE from January 2011 to December 2021.

Patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) frequently receive red blood cell (RBC) transfusions for anaemia resulting from ineffective erythropoiesis. While RBC transfusions may rapidly increase haemoglobin values, their impact on clinical and health services outcomes in MDS patients has not previously been summarized. We conducted a systematic review of the literature to evaluate risks and benefits of RBC transfusions in MDS patients.
