Anatomical reconstruction of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament in elite athletes using InternalBrace suture tape.

Aims: The ideal management of acute syndesmotic injuries in elite athletes is controversial. Among several treatment methods used to stabilize the syndesmosis and facilitate healing of the ligaments, the use of suture tape (InternalBrace) has previously been described. The purpose of this study was to analyze the functional outcome, including American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) scores, knee-to-wall measurements, and the time to return to play in days, of unstable syndesmotic injuries treated with the use of the InternalBrace in elite athletes.

Fibula lengthening osteotomy to correct valgus mal-alignment following total ankle arthroplasty.

Total Ankle Arthroplasty (TAA) is increasing in popularity following the development of the, next generation of implants and improved surgical technique giving better long-term results. Significant mal-alignment of the ankle pre-operatively has always provided a challenge to the surgeon, to regain anatomical alignment to reduce subsequent wear. We present a series of two cases of TAA, who developed post-operative valgus deformity requiring salvage procedure in the form of a fibula, lengthening osteotomy.

A wear debris cyst following S.T.A.R. Total Ankle Replacement--surgical management.

We present a case of a 65-year-old gentleman who underwent a Total Ankle Replacement in January 2002. Four years later he required a revision procedure after developing edge loading and a polymer wear cyst within the fibula, which communicated directly with the ankle joint.

Chronic digital infection presenting with gross enlargement of the toes: two case reports and review of the literature.

There are many conditions ranging from the benign to the malignant, which can present with enlargement of one or more digits. An understanding of the differential diagnosis is important such that the potentially serious aetiologies are not missed and patients can therefore be treated appropriately. We present two patients, a male and a female aged 58 and 49 respectively, who presented to orthopaedic surgeons with gross enlargement of the toes.
