Background: Patients with resected oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) are often treated with adjuvant radiation (RT) ± concomitant chemotherapy based on pathological findings. Standard RT volumes include all surgically dissected areas, including the tumour bed and dissected neck. RT has significant acute and long-term toxicities including odynophagia, dysphagia, dermatitis and fibrosis.

Replicating and extending the effects of auditory religious cues on dishonest behavior.

Although scientists agree that replications are critical to the debate on the validity of religious priming research, religious priming replications are scarce. This paper attempts to replicate and extend previously observed effects of religious priming on ethical behavior. We test the effect of religious instrumental music on individuals' ethical behavior with university participants (N = 408) in the Czech Republic, Japan, and the US.

Development and validation of a Surgical Prioritization and Ranking Tool and Navigation Aid for Head and Neck Cancer (SPARTAN-HN) in a scarce resource setting: Response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: In the wake of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, access to surgical care for patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) is limited and unpredictable. Determining which patients should be prioritized is inherently subjective and difficult to assess. The authors have proposed an algorithm to fairly and consistently triage patients and mitigate the risk of adverse outcomes.

Proteomic resolution of IGFN1 complexes reveals a functional interaction with the actin nucleating protein COBL.

The Igfn1 gene produces multiple proteins by alternative splicing predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle. Igfn1 deficient clones derived from C2C12 myoblasts show reduced fusion index and morphological differences compared to control myotubes. Here, we first show that G:F actin ratios are significantly higher in differentiating IGFN1-deficient C2C12 myoblasts, suggesting that fusion and differentiation defects are underpinned by deficient actin remodelling.

Imaging and radiomics play an increasingly important role in these models. This review summarizes recent developments in the field of radiomics for AI in head and neck cancer.

Fostering Stress Resilience Among Business Students: The Role of Stress Mindset and Self-Connection.

Educators are becoming increasingly concerned about the high rates of burnout among their students. Although the solution may appear to be reducing the stress their students experience, simply reducing stress is a temporary solution and does not help students when they enter the workforce and encounter increased stressors. A better option may be to consider the ways in which students can increase stress resilience in ways that will help them long after they leave the classroom.

The Factor Reliability and Convergent Validity of the Patient Health Questionnaire-4 Among an International Sample of Pregnant Women.

Pregnant women are at an increased risk for anxiety and depression, but a majority of women go untreated due to a high rate of undetected symptoms. The 4-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-4) is an ultrabrief screening instrument for anxiety and depression with sound psychometric properties demonstrated in the general population and primary care, but not among pregnant women. The aim of this study was to provide initial evidence of the validity and reliability of the PHQ-4 among pregnant women.

Same-day Discharge after Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter-defibrillator Implantation is Safe and Cost-effective.

The feasibility and safety of same-day discharge after transvenous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantation is well-established. However, subcutaneous ICDs (S-ICDs) are now increasingly being implanted, and the feasibility, safety, and potential cost savings associated with same-day discharge after S-ICD placement has not been widely investigated. In a small cohort of patients (n = 24) who underwent S-ICD implantation at our institution, 54% were successfully discharged on the same day as their implant procedure.

Optimal Use of Titanium Dioxide Colourant to Enable Water Surfaces to Be Measured by Kinect Sensors.

Recent studies have sought to use Microsoft Kinect sensors to measure water surface shape in steady flows or transient flow processes. They have typically employed a white colourant, usually titanium dioxide (TiO), in order to make the surface opaque and visible to the infrared-based sensors. However, the ability of Kinect Version 1 (KV1) and Kinect Version 2 (KV2) sensors to measure the deformation of ostensibly smooth reflective surfaces has never been compared, with most previous studies using a V1 sensor with no justification.

Recommendations for head and neck surgical oncology practice in a setting of acute severe resource constraint during the COVID-19 pandemic: an international consensus.

The speed and scale of the global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in unprecedented pressures on health services worldwide, requiring new methods of service delivery during the health crisis. In the setting of severe resource constraint and high risk of infection to patients and clinicians, there is an urgent need to identify consensus statements on head and neck surgical oncology practice. We completed a modified Delphi consensus process of three rounds with 40 international experts in head and neck cancer surgical, radiation, and medical oncology, representing 35 international professional societies and national clinical trial groups.

Effects of tamoxifen on tendon homeostasis and healing: Considerations for the use of tamoxifen-inducible mouse models.

The use of tamoxifen-inducible models of Cre recombinase in the tendon field is rapidly expanding, resulting in an enhanced understanding of tendon homeostasis and healing. However, the effects of tamoxifen on the tendon are not well-defined, which is particularly problematic given that tamoxifen can have both profibrotic and antifibrotic effects in a tissue-specific manner. Therefore, in the present study, we examined the effects of tamoxifen on tendon homeostasis and healing in male and female C57Bl/6J mice.

The use of inter-professional education (IPE) healthcare law and ethics scenario based learning sessions amongst nursing, midwifery and law students: An evaluation.

Background: Litigation and disciplinary action taken by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) against nurses' remains a concern with costs of claims against the NHS increasing by 72% over the five years up to 2015/16 with almost £1.5 billion spent in one year alone. Additionally, 5476 referrals regarding registrants' fitness to practice were made to the NMC in 2016-2017.

Restoration of exocrine pancreatic function in older children with cystic fibrosis on ivacaftor.

Prior to the use of cystic fibrosis (CF) modulator therapy, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in CF was thought to be irreversible. Improvement in pancreatic function on ivacaftor has been reported in open label studies in 1-5 year olds. The mechanism by which ivacaftor might improve exocrine pancreatic function is unclear.

Background: Dermatology consultations in the inpatient hospital setting can improve diagnostic accuracy and management.

Objective: Characterize dermatologic diagnostic and treatment trends in the hospital setting and identify variables that may affect patient care.

Methods: Retrospective chart review from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2017 at Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) (Miami, Florida, USA), an academic non-profit tertiary care centre affiliated with University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, was performed.

Combined methazolamide and theophylline improves oxygen saturation but not exercise performance or altitude illness in acute hypobaric hypoxia.

New Findings: What is the central question of this study? Does the combination of methazolamide and theophylline reduce symptoms of acute mountain sickness (AMS) and improve aerobic performance in acute hypobaric hypoxia? What is the main finding and its importance? The oral combination of methazolamide (100 BID) and theophylline (300 BID) improved arterial oxygen saturation but did not reduce symptoms of AMS and impaired aerobic performance. We do not recommend this combination of drugs for prophylaxis against the acute negative effects of hypobaric hypoxia.

Abstract: A limited number of small studies have suggested that methazolamide and theophylline can independently reduce symptoms of acute mountain sickness (AMS) and, if taken together, can improve aerobic exercise performance in normobaric hypoxia.

The Role of Self-Connection in the Relationship between Mindfulness and Meaning: A Longitudinal Examination.

Background: Researchers have rarely examined mindfulness and meaning in a way that informs the causality and directionality of this relationship. The current research examines this relationship across time, further validates the Self-Connection Scale (SCS), and examines the role of self-connection in both moderating and mediating this relationship. This allows for researchers and practitioners alike to utilise self-connection to help increase their own and others' well-being.

Electrocatalytic CO Reduction to Formate with Molecular Fe(III) Complexes Containing Pendent Proton Relays.

Previously, we reported an iron(III) complex with 6,6'-([2,2'-bipyridine]-6,6'-diyl)bis(2,4-ditertbutyl-phenol) as a ligand (Fe(dhbpy)Cl, ) as catalytically competent for the electrochemical reduction of CO to formate (Faradaic efficiency FE = 68 ± 4%). In mechanistic experiments, an essential component was found to be a pre-equilibrium reaction involving the association of the proton donor with the catalyst, which preceded proton transfer to the Fe-bound O atoms upon reduction of the Fe center. Here, we report the synthesis, structural characterization, and reactivity of two iron(III) compounds with 6,6'-([2,2'-bipyridine]-6,6'-diyl)bis(2-methoxy-4-methylphenol) (crebpy[H], Fe(crebpy)Cl, ) and 6,6'-([2,2'-bipyridine]-6,6'-diyl)bis(4-(-butyl)benzene-1,2-diol) (catbpy[H], Fe(catbpy), ) as ligands, where pendent -OMe and -OH groups are poised to modify the protonation reaction involving the Fe-bound O atoms.

Novel Strategies to Effectively De-escalate Curative-Intent Therapy for Patients With HPV-Associated Oropharyngeal Cancer: Current and Future Directions.

The treatment of patients with HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer (HPV-OPC) is rapidly evolving and challenging the standard of care of definitive radiotherapy with concurrent cisplatin. There are numerous promising de-escalation strategies under investigation, including deintensified definitive chemoradiotherapy, transoral surgery followed by de-escalated adjuvant therapy, and induction chemotherapy followed by de-escalated locoregional therapy. Definitive radiotherapy alone or with cetuximab is not recommended for curative-intent treatment of patients with locally advanced HPV-OPC.

Dupilumab as a novel therapy for bullous pemphigoid: A multicenter case series.

Indeed, the success of immune checkpoint-blocking antibodies in cancer treatment has focused the attention of many researchers on the tumor immune microenvironment. As one consequence, the analysis of the number, type, and activation status of tumor-infiltrating leukocytes (TILs) has become an area of great interest.

Combination Topical Chemotherapy for the Treatment of an Invasive Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Introduction: Standard of care for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is usually surgical, with either excision or Mohs micrographic surgery. However, surgery may not be ideal for elderly patients with numerous lesions, who are poor surgical candidates or who refuse surgery. Topical 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and imiquimod have been studied off-label as monotherapies in the treatment of SCC in situ with promising results.

Sex disparities in head & neck cancer driver genes: An analysis of the TCGA dataset.

Objectives: Survival in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) has been associated with patient sex, typically with males experiencing poorer outcomes. It is unclear if this disparity is based in divergent tumor biology.
