Many children would benefit from a diet richer in vegetables and fruit. Reluctance to taste new foods is widely recognized as a barrier to healthy dietary variety in children. 'Flavour School' is a programme of 'sensory food education', aiming to increase children's confidence and curiosity in exploring foods and flavours, especially vegetables and fruit.

Diets deficient in fibre are reported globally. The associated health risks of insufficient dietary fibre are sufficiently grave to necessitate large-scale interventions to increase population intake levels. The Danish Whole Grain Partnership (DWP) is a public-private enterprise model that successfully augmented whole-grain intake in the Danish population.

Background: Many children would benefit from a diet richer in vegetables and fruit. 'Flavour School' is a programme of 'sensory food education', which aims to increase children's confidence and curiosity in exploring foods and flavours, especially vegetables and fruit. This study will conduct a cluster-randomised controlled trial to assess the outcomes of the Flavour School programme in primary school children aged 4-7 years.

The use of environmental DNA (eDNA) has become an applicable noninvasive tool with which to obtain information about biodiversity. A subdiscipline of eDNA is iDNA (invertebrate-derived DNA), where genetic material ingested by invertebrates is used to characterize the biodiversity of the species that served as hosts. While promising, these techniques are still in their infancy, as they have only been explored on limited numbers of samples from only a single or a few different locations.

There has been much recent interest in using local knowledge and expert opinion for conservation planning, particularly for hard-to-detect species. Although it is possible to ask for direct estimation of quantities such as population size, relative abundance is easier to estimate. However, an expert's knowledge is often geographically restricted relative to the area of interest.

The use of robust ecological data to make evidence-based management decisions is frequently prevented by limited data quantity or quality, and local ecological knowledge (LEK) is increasingly seen as an important source of information for conservation. However, there has been little assessment of LEK's usefulness for informing prioritization and management of landscapes for threatened species, or assessing comparative species status across landscapes.A large-scale interview survey in the Annamite Mountains (Vietnam and Lao PDR) compiled the first systematic LEK data set for saola , one of the world's rarest mammals, and eight other ungulates.

Aims: To examine the contribution of demographic, social, clinical and psychological factors to emotional distress in patients with painful diabetic neuropathy (DN).

Methods: In total, 142 patients with confirmed painful DN underwent detailed clinical and self-assessment measures (Neuropathic Pain Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Pain Acceptance Questionnaire and Pain Catastrophizing Scale).

Results: The prevalence of emotional distress was 51.

Visual scan paths exhibit complex, stochastic dynamics. Even during visual fixation, the eye is in constant motion. Fixational drift and tremor are thought to reflect fluctuations in the persistent neural activity of neural integrators in the oculomotor brainstem, which integrate sequences of transient saccadic velocity signals into a short term memory of eye position.

Empirical studies have revealed remarkable perceptual organization in neonates. Newborn behavioral distinctions have often been interpreted as implying functionally specific modular adaptations, and are widely cited as evidence supporting the nativist agenda. In this theoretical paper, we approach newborn perception and attention from an embodied, developmental perspective.

Background: Rare chronic childhood vasculitides lack a reliable disease activity assessment tool. With emerging new treatment modalities such a tool has become increasingly essential for both clinical practice and therapeutic trials to reproducibly quantify change in disease state.

Objective: To develop and validate a paediatric vasculitis activity assessment tool based on modification of the Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score (BVASv.

Objective: To identify the need for, and feasibility of, establishing a web-based USA/Canadian registry of children with chronic systemic vasculitis--an otherwise insufficiently studied population.

Methods: Physician members of the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA; n = 126) were invited to complete 2 surveys exploring vasculitis-related experience, beliefs about childhood versus adult vasculitis, and commitment to contribute patients to a prospective registry. Diagnoses included Wegener's granulomatosis (WG), childhood polyarteritis nodosa, microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), Takayasu's arteritis, primary angiitis of the central nervous system (PACNS), vasculitis, and unclassified vasculitis.

Eighteen Caucasian (white, Middle East and Asian) children diagnosed by paediatric rheumatologists in the UK and France as having systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) were enrolled in this open label, single dose trial. All patients had evidence of continued symptoms and disease activity for at least three months while receiving >0.2 mg/kg/day of prednisolone, or its equivalent, prior to recruitment.
