Through the eyes of Spanish-speaking patients, caregivers, and community leaders: a qualitative study on the in-patient hospital experience.

Background: Spanish-speakers with non-English language preference and complex medical needs suffer disparities in quality of care, safety, and health outcomes. Communication challenges during prolonged hospitalizations for complex illnesses negatively influence how this group engages in their care and decision-making while hospitalized. Limited literature capturing the perspectives of Spanish-speaking patients in this context exists.

Triage Procedures for Critical Care Resource Allocation During Scarcity.

Importance: During the COVID-19 pandemic, many US states issued or revised pandemic preparedness plans guiding allocation of critical care resources during crises. State plans vary in the factors used to triage patients and have faced criticism from advocacy groups due to the potential for discrimination.

Objective: To analyze the role of comorbidities and long-term prognosis in state triage procedures.

Oxybutynin 3% gel for the treatment of primary focal hyperhidrosis in adolescents and young adults.

Background/objectives: There are no reliably effective, well-tolerated topical agents for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. We sought to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of oxybutynin 3% gel in adolescents and young adults with primary focal hyperhidrosis.

Methods: Patients with severe axillary hyperhidrosis were treated with topical oxybutynin 3% gel for 4 weeks.

Hereditary Progressive Mucinous Histiocytosis: New Insights Into a Rare Disease.

Hereditary progressive mucinous histiocytosis is a rare, benign, skin-limited form of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis. We report on a 5-year-old boy who presented in infancy with self-resolving dermal nodules but later developed persistent and progressive erythematous papules on the face and scalp. Histologic evaluation revealed dermal aggregates of S-100/CD1a-negative histiocytes with abundant mucin.

Spiny Papules in an Immunosuppressed Child.

Trichodysplasia spinulosa is a rare folliculocentric polyomavirus infection observed in the setting of immunosuppression. We report a 7-year-old boy with pre-B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia who presented with folliculocentric spiny papules on the face. Histologic evaluation revealed hypertrophic bulbs, an expanded inner root sheath, and numerous brightly eosinophilic trichohyalin granules.

Cryosurgical treatment of warts: dimethyl ether and propane versus liquid nitrogen - case report and review of the literature.

For years, dermatologists have relied on cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen as a safe and effective treatment for warts. More recently, several over-the-counter (OTC) wart-freezing therapies have become available. Manufacturers have substituted liquid nitrogen with dimethyl ether and propane (DMEP), and marketed these new preparations to be safe and effective alternatives to in-office cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen.
