Geriatrics Connect: countering ageism in first-year medical students with longitudinal telephonic relationships.

The authors created Geriatrics Connect (GeriConnect), a program for first-year medical students at NYU Grossman School of Medicine to learn about healthy aging by developing a 7-month long telephonic relationship with an older adult living in the community. : Early exposure to geriatrics and older adults is instrumental to preparing future physicians to care for the aging population. The objective of this study was to evaluate how the GeriConnect program affected students' attitudes on aging and ageism.

Electronic Nicotine Delivery System Aerosol-induced Cell Death and Dysfunction in Macrophages and Lung Epithelial Cells.

Electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) use is outpacing our understanding of its potential harmful effects. Homeostasis of the lung is maintained through proper balance of cell death, efferocytic clearance, and phagocytosis of pathogens. To investigate whether ENDS use has the potential to alter this balance, we developed physiologically relevant ENDS exposure paradigms for lung epithelial cells and primary macrophages.

Analysis of Oral Food Challenge Outcomes in IgE-Mediated Food Allergies to Almond in a Large Cohort.

Background: Although almond specific IgE-mediated food allergies have traditionally been equated with other tree nut allergies, outcomes of oral food challenges to almond and the utility of clinical testing to predict IgE-mediated almond hypersensitivity are not well known.

Objective: To describe almond oral challenge outcomes and assess the predictive value of clinical testing.

Methods: A total of 603 almond challenges performed for 590 patients, aged 1 to 66 years, were analyzed from Massachusetts General Hospital allergy practices.
