A nanocrystalline graphite-like amorphous carbon (graphite from the University of Idaho thermolyzed asphalt reaction, GUITAR) shares morphological features with classical graphites, including basal and edge planes (BP, EP). However, unlike graphites and other sp2-hybridized carbons, GUITAR has fast heterogenous electron transfer (HET) across its basal planes, and resistance to corrosion similar to sp3-C and boron-doped diamond electrodes. We first explore negative-ion formation in fullerenes C to C through low-energy electron elastic scattering total cross sections calculations using our Regge-pole methodology. Then, the formed negative ions C to C are used to investigate the catalysis of water oxidation to peroxide and water synthesis from H and O. The exploited fundamental mechanism underlying negative-ion catalysis involves hydrogen bond strength-weakening/breaking in the transition state.

This paper illustrates a proof of concept scenario for the application of comprehensive data visualisation methods in the rapidly changing aged care sector. The scenario we explored is population ageing and the dementias with an emphasis on the spatial effects of change over time at the Statistical Area 2 (SA2) level for the state of New South Wales. We did this using a combination of methods, culminating in the use of the Tableau software environment to explore the intersections of demography, epidemiology and their formal cost of care implications.

PAK1 and PAK4 are members of the p-21 activated kinase family of serine/threonine kinases. PAK1 has previously been implicated in both the formation and disassembly of invasive cell protrusions, termed invadopodia. We recently reported a novel role for PAK4 during invadopodia maturation and confirmed a specific role for PAK1 in invadopodia formation; findings we will review here.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADC) comprise targeting antibodies armed with potent small-molecule payloads. ADCs demonstrate specific cell killing in clinic, but the basis of their antitumor activity is not fully understood. In this study, we investigated the degree to which payload release predicts ADC activity in vitro and in vivo ADCs were generated to target different receptors on the anaplastic large cell lymphoma line L-82, but delivered the same cytotoxic payload (monomethyl auristatin E, MMAE), and we found that the intracellular concentration of released MMAE correlated with in vitro ADC-mediated cytotoxicity independent of target expression or drug:antibody ratios.
