The purpose of this study was to investigate the linear relationships among the hand/clubhead motion characteristics in golf driving in skilled male golfers (n = 66; handicap ≤ 3). The hand motion plane (HMP) and functional swing plane (FSP) angles, the HMP-FSP angle gaps, the planarity characteristics of the off-plane motion of the clubhead, and the attack angles were computed from the drives captured by an optical motion capture system. The HMP angles were identified as the key variables, as the HMP and FSP angles were intercorrelated, but the plane angle gaps, the planarity bias, and the attack angles showed correlations to the HMP angles primarily.

Functional training aims to provide specific adaptations due to exercise training and utilises a variety of equipment, including kettlebells. Due to the training principle of overload, a greater resistance must be applied to yield increased strength results. This study examined the effects of kettlebell mass on lower body joint kinetics in young recreationally trained adults.

BACKGROUND The effect of foot orthoses in terms of kinematics and kinetics during walking could be affected on different geometrical designs. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical and clinical effects of 3 different insoles on rearfoot motion (RFM) and ankle joint moment parameters. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty eight university students with flexible flatfoot were recruited for this study, and each participant was asked to wear 3 different insoles: normal insole without arch support function, type A insole with only arch support function, and type B insole with both arch support and cushion pads for shock absorbing functions.

Background: Low-grade gliomas (LGGs) are slow-growing, infiltrative tumors frequently associated with seizures. Predicting which patients will develop early tumor recurrence based on clinical indicators following initial surgical intervention remains a challenge. Seizure recurrence following surgery may be an early indicator of tumor recurrence, especially in patients presenting with increase in seizure frequency.

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) describes a group of disorders that are due to a dynamic compression of blood vessels or nerves, between the clavicle and first rib or cervical vertebral nerve roots. Individuals with TOS typically experience upper limb pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that is exacerbated by shoulder or neck movement. The causes of TOS vary, and can include abrupt movements, hypertrophy of the neck musculature, and anatomical variations in which the brachial plexus roots pass through this musculature, edema, pregnancy, repeated overhead motions, the blockage of an artery or vein, or abnormal posture.

Background: After brain metastasis resection, whole brain radiotherapy decreases local recurrence, but might cause cognitive decline. We did this study to determine if stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) to the surgical cavity improved time to local recurrence compared with that for surgical resection alone.

Methods: In this randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial, we recruited patients at a single tertiary cancer centre in the USA.

OBJECTIVE Fourth ventricle tumors are rare, and surgical series are typically small, comprising a single pathology, or focused exclusively on pediatric populations. This study investigated surgical outcome and complications following fourth ventricle tumor resection in a diverse patient population. This is the largest cohort of fourth ventricle tumors described in the literature to date.

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is a type of well-differentiated thyroid cancer that accounts for the majority of thyroid malignancies. The prognosis of PTC is very good and distant metastases are rare, especially to the skull base. The authors report the case of a 47-year-old woman with biopsy-proven PTC treated with surgery and radiation therapy who presented with headache and diplopia after 5 years and was found to have clivus and cavernous sinus metastasis.

Background: Papillary tumor of the pineal region (PTPR) is a rare neuroectodermal tumor that was first described in 2003 and formally codified by the World Health Organization in 2007. Limited reports suggest surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment; however, the role of multimodality therapy is not well defined. We evaluated our institutional experience in the treatment of PTPR.

Subependymomas are usually treated with surgical resection; however, no standard, defined alternative medical therapy is recommended for patients who are not surgical candidates, owing to a paucity of molecular, immunological, and genetic characterization. To address this, an ex vivo functional analysis of the immune microenvironment in subependymoma was conducted, a subependymoma cytokine/chemokine microarray was constructed for the evaluation of operational immune and molecular pathways, and a subependymoma cell line was derived and used to test a variety of cytotoxic agents that target operational pathways identified in subependymoma. We found that immune effectors are detectable within the microenvironment of subependymoma; however, marked immune suppression is not observed.

Background Transnasal endoscopic resection (TER) has become the treatment of choice for many skull base tumors. A major limitation of TER is the management of large dural defects and the need for repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, particularly among patients who are treated with chemotherapy (CTX) or radiotherapy (RT). The objective of this study is to determine the impact of CTX and RT on the success of CSF leak repair after TER.

Sinonasal malignancies, a rare group of tumors, are characterized by histological heterogeneity and poor survival. As improvements in image-guidance and endoscopic technologies became incorporated into head and neck oncologic and neurosurgical practice, the application of these technologies and techniques to the surgical management of sinonasal malignancy began. Over the past decade, there has been increasing evidence regarding the safety and oncological effectiveness of these techniques.

miRNAs (miR) have been shown to modulate critical gene transcripts involved in tumorigenesis, but their role in tumor-mediated immunosuppression is largely unknown. On the basis of miRNA gene expression in gliomas using tissue microarrays, in situ hybridization, and molecular modeling, miR-124 was identified as a lead candidate for modulating STAT3 signaling, a key pathway mediating immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment. miR-124 is absent in all grades and pathologic types of gliomas.
