Treatment in spinal disorders, sacroiliac joint disruption, and sacral fractures may involve instrumentation of the sacrum. Proper screw placement is essential for obtaining adequate bony purchase for solid fixation. Injury to adjacent vital structures during screw placement remains a major concern because of the complex anatomy of the sacrum.

Intraoperative fracture of a pyrocarbon PIP total joint-a case report.

Pain or dysfunction of the finger joints due to arthritis or traumatic injuries that fail medical management may necessitate arthroplasty or joint replacement. The goals of the finger joint implant arthroplasty are to relieve pain, to correct deformity, and to improve the function and appearance of the hand. Several prosthetic implants have been used for the replacement of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint.

Management of non-united four-corner fusions.

Purpose: Wrist degeneration, resulting from scaphoid nonunion or scapholunate ligamentous disruption, is widely managed with scaphoid excision with four-corner fusion. There are no specific details in the literature regarding "salvage" of nonunion after attempted "four-corner fusions" or the patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of patients who underwent treatment for nonunion after four-corner fusion, the subsequent surgeries done for wrist salvage and the functional results.

Fixation of unstable distal radius fractures with intrafocal pins and trans-styloid augmentation: a retrospective review and radiographic analysis.

Our technique of intrafocal pinning with trans-styloid augmentation is highly effective in treating unstable distal radius fractures. In addition, our technique is safe and has a minimal number of complications. Although patients who are over age 65 may require additional rehabilitation after fracture healing, their ultimate outcomes will be satisfactory.

Posterior sternoclavicular dislocations: a review of management and complications.

Posterior sternoclavicular dislocations are relatively uncommon injuries. Nevertheless, these dislocations are associated with potentially fatal injuries to the mediastinum and the great vessels. Medial clavicle physeal injury with posterior dislocation may present with a similar clinical picture in younger patients.

Sagittal knee kinematics after rectus femoris transfer without hamstring lengthening.

The purpose of this study was to assess the sagittal knee kinematics of rectus femoris transfer without hamstring lengthening. A retrospective review of seventeen children (29 knees) was performed. Gait analysis was performed prior to surgery and repeated at a minimum of one year after surgery.

Removal of the less invasive stabilization system.

The Less Invasive Stabilization System (LISS; Synthes; Paoli, PA) is a newly developed locking plate that has been used for fixation of distal femoral supracondylar and proximal tibial fractures. The early clinical results have been encouraging; however, there is little information available on the removal of these implants. Frequent stripping of the locking screws has been found by our group when removal is attempted.
