The Healing Effect of Sesame Oil, Camphor and Honey on Second Degree Burn Wounds in Rat.

WHO mandates the quantification of Ki67 index by counting at least 500 positive tumor cells in a hotspot. Unfortunately, Ki67 antibody may stain both tumor and non-tumor cells as positive depending on the phase of the cell cycle.

A Rare Cause of Abdominal Pain and Mass in an 18-Year-Old Patient: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

We present a case of an 18-year-old male who presented with complains of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting for 2 years. An esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) revealed a 3 mm nodule on the lesser curvature of the stomach and prominent gastric folds. Biopsy of the nodule revealed a well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor (NET) in lamina prop with focal extension into muscularis mucosa consistent with a gastric carcinoid.

An application of transfer learning to neutrophil cluster detection for tuberculosis: Efficient implementation with nonmetric multidimensional scaling and sampling.

A neutrophil is a type of white blood cell that is responsible for killing pathogenic bacteria but may simultaneously damage host tissue. We established a method to automatically detect neutrophils from slides stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), because there is growing evidence that neutrophils, which respond to , are cellular biomarkers of lung damage in tuberculosis. The proposed method relies on transfer learning to reuse features extracted from the activation of a deep convolutional network trained on a large dataset.

The Rose window instability is a little-explored electrohydrodynamic instability that manifests when a layer of low-conducting oil is placed in an electric field generated by corona discharge in a point-to-plane configuration. In this study, the researchers investigated the potential use of locally available waste materials from the lime stone quarry and the granite industry as a partial replacement of cement. Quarry sites and granite industry in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia produces tons of powder wastes in the form of quarry dust (QD) and granite sludge (GS), respectively, causing serious environmental problems along with frequent dust storms in the area. According to ASTM C109, identical 50-mm3 specimens were cast throughout this study to evaluate the compressive strength development of mortars (7, 28 and 91 days) containing these waste materials.

The temperature dependence of the charge-carrier mobility provides essential insight into the charge transport mechanisms in organic semiconductors. Such knowledge imparts critical understanding of the electrical properties of these materials, leading to better design of high-performance materials for consumer applications. Here, we present experimental results that suggest that the inhomogeneous strain induced in organic semiconductor layers by the mismatch between the coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) of the consecutive device layers of field-effect transistors generates trapping states that localize charge carriers.

TNF-α Genetic Predisposition and Higher Expression of Inflammatory Pathway Components in Keratoconus.

Purpose: To date keratoconus (KC) pathogenesis is undefined; however, the involvement of inflammatory pathways in disease development is becoming apparent. In the present study, we investigated the role of a promoter region polymorphism rs1800629 (-308G>A) in the inflammatory pathway component TNF-α and its effects on the expression of TNF-α and downstream molecules tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 and 2 (TNFR1 and TNFR2), v-rel avian reticuloendotheliosis viral oncogene homolog A (RELA), and interleukin 6 (IL-6) in KC development.

Methods: TNF-α promoter polymorphism rs1800629 (-308G>A), was genotyped in 257 sporadic KC patients and 253 healthy controls.

A Rare Case of Sarcomatoid Carcinoma of the Lung with Spine Metastasis, Including a Literature Review.

BACKGROUND Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare, aggressive, malignant cancer composed of sarcoma and sarcoma-like components, and can occur in different organs such as the thyroid gland, bone, skin, breast, pancreas, liver, urinary tract, and lung. Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma accounts for only a small percentage of lung cancers and has histological variants that include pleomorphic carcinoma, giant cell carcinoma, spindle cell carcinoma, carcinosarcoma, and pulmonary blastoma. CASE REPORT Here, we present a case of sarcomatoid carcinoma in a 63-year-old HIV-positive Hispanic male who presented with back pain, dry cough, and weight loss.

An Unusual Triad of Hemophagocytic Syndrome, Lymphoma and Tuberculosis in a Non-HIV Patient.

Cranial nerve palsy could be one of the presenting features of underlying benign or malignant tumors of the head and neck. The tumor can involve the cranial nerves by local compression, direct infiltration or by paraneoplastic process. Cranial nerve involvement depends on the anatomical course of the cranial nerve and the site of the tumor.

Cystic Lymphangioma of the Colon: Endoscopic Removal beyond the Frontiers of Size.

Cystic lymphangiomas are benign colonic neoplasms arising from the submucosa. Traditionally, endoscopic resection has been described for smaller lesions, while surgery is reserved for larger symptomatic lesions. We present a case of a 69-year-old asymptomatic individual noted to have a cystic lymphangioma of the colon measuring 5 cm, which was successfully removed with endoloop endoscopic resection without any complications.

An Unusual Presentation of Acute Fibrinous and Organizing Pneumonia.

BACKGROUND Acute fibrinous and organizing pneumonia (AFOP) is a newly evolving rare non-infectious lung pathology, characterized by intra-alveolar fibrin balls on histology. It is often difficult to diagnose and is usually mistaken for other lung pathologies. We present an interesting case of AFOP with unusual radiologic findings and disease course.
