Background: Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), and may cause fever, nausea, headache, or meningitis. It is currently unclear whether the epidemiological characteristics of the JEV have been affected by the extreme climatic conditions that have been observed in recent years.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the epidemiological characteristics, trends, and potential risk factors of JE in Taiwan from 2008 to 2020.
Background: The protein cereblon (CRBN) mediates the antileukemia effect of lenalidomide (Len). Len binds to CRBN, recruits IKZF1/IKZF3, and promotes their ubiquitination and degradation, through which Len exhibits its antileukemia and antimyeloma activity. Therefore, the protein level of CRBN might affect the antiproliferative effect of Len.

Methods: This was a retrospective study involving 114 middle-aged and young adults with displaced FNFs who were surgically treated with internal fixation via the FNS in the Department of Orthopedics, Suzhou Municipal Hospital, from December 2019 to January 2023. The degree of deviation of the central axis of the femoral head and neck from the tip of the bolt (W), the tip‒apex distance (TAD) and the length of femoral neck shortening (LFNS) were measured on postoperative X-ray and computed tomography (CT) scan images.
Background: Due to sexual dimorphism in growth of penaeid shrimp, all-female cultivation is desirable for the aquaculture industry. 17β-estradiol (E2) has the potential to induce the male-to-female sex reversal of decapod species. However, the mechanisms behind it remain poorly understood.

Methods: Our study consisted of 381 patients from four centers with 138 HCCs, 122 DPHCCs, and 121 ICCs (244 for training and 62 for internal tests, centers 1 and 2; 75 for external tests, centers 3 and 4). Radiomics, deep transfer learning (DTL), and fusion models based on CE-MRI were established for differential diagnosis, respectively, and their diagnostic performances were compared using the confusion matrix and area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC).
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the status of tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) using radiomic features in patients with invasive pulmonary adenocarcinoma (IA).
Methods: In this retrospective study, patients with IA from November 2015 to March 2024 were recruited from two independent centers (center 1, training and internal test data set; center 2, external test data set). TLS was divided into two groups according to hematoxylin-eosin staining.
The inflammatory response of lung tissue and abnormal proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells are involved in the pathogenesis of high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Halofuginone (HF), an active ingredient derivative of Chang Shan (Dichroa febrifuga Lour. [Hydrangeaceae]), has antiproliferative, antihypertrophic, antifibrotic, and other effects, but its protective effects on HAPH remains unclear.

The extent to which this negative effect varies among grassland types and over time in response to multi-year extreme drought remains unclear. Here, using a coordinated distributed experiment that simulated four years of growing-season drought (around 66% rainfall reduction), we compared drought sensitivity within and among six representative grasslands spanning broad precipitation gradients in each of Eurasia and North America-two of the Northern Hemisphere's largest grass-dominated regions.

The grain size in cereals is one of the component traits contributing to yield. Previous studies showed that loss-of-function (LOF) mutations in GS3, encoding Gγ subunit of the multimeric G protein complex, increase grain size and weight in rice.

By precisely controlling the shape of the template, it is possible to achieve custom-designed nanoparticle assemblies. However, a major challenge remains in fabricating these templates over large areas at a low cost.

Profiling the genomic and pharmacological landscape of 194 pediatric ETV6::RUNX1 ALL cases, we uncover two transcriptomic clusters, C1 (61%) and C2 (39%). Compared to C1, the C2 subtype features higher white blood cell counts and younger age at diagnosis, as well as better early treatment responses.

Background: Filipinos are the third largest sub-group of Asian Americans in the United States and have greater socioeconomic and health disparities than many other Asian sub-groups [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]. Characteristics of Filipino patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) have not been adequately studied.
Objective: To scope the extent, range and nature of current knowledge on PD in Filipino-American (FA) patients in contrast to Filipino patients in general.
Background: Securing a stable airway is a critical component in neonatal resuscitation. Compared to direct laryngoscopy, video laryngoscopy provides improved visualization of the glottis, potentially enhancing the success rate of intubation. This systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess and compare the efficacy and safety of video laryngoscopy versus direct laryngoscopy in neonatal intubation.

Recent studies point to the rapid antidepressant effect of psilocybin; however, the biological mechanisms underlying these differences remain unknown. This study determines the feasibility of using diffusion MRI to characterize and define the potential spatiotemporal microstructural differences in the brain following psilocybin treatment in C57BL/6J male mice.

Soundscape technology is an innovative coral reef restoration approach that attracts fish to degraded reefs. Inspired by such technique, a five-dimensional mathematical dynamical model incorporating the asymmetric dispersal of parrotfish is formulated to characterize the dynamic interaction among macroalgae, coral, algal turf, and parrotfish in coral reef ecosystem.

However, minimal information is available regarding their concentration, distribution, and speciation in the actual environment. In this work, different species of AgCNPs, including silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), silver chloride (AgCl NPs) and silver sulfide (AgS NPs) in water and sediment samples from Taihu Lake were analyzed by a multistep selective dissolution method combined with single-particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Therefore, to explore potential drug targets for interstitial lung disease (ILD), we investigated the interaction of ICB and RT in pulmonary AEs using the disproportionality analysis and COX regression. Genome-wide association studies, transcriptome analysis, and vivo models highlighted the role of programmed death-ligand-1 (PD-L1) in ILD.

How epigenetic regulators contribute to the metabolic flexibility and PDAC's response and adaptation to Gln scarcity in the tumor milieu remains largely unknown. Here, we elucidate that prolonged Gln restriction or treatment with the Gln antagonist, 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON), leads to growth inhibition and ferroptosis program activation in PDAC.

Methods: Patients of COPD received pulmonary rehabilitation under the supervision of a professional at the institute (PI cohort, n = 115) or self-driven traditional Chinese methods-based pulmonary rehabilitation at home (CE cohort, n = 127) or did not receive any type of pulmonary rehabilitation (ME cohort, n = 155). All patients received inhaled pharmacological treatment for COPD.
Purpose: Reduction and intraoperative maintenance of fracture fragments during minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) pose technical difficulties, particularly when the interposed fragment is angulated, prompting surgeons to attempt reduction due to concerns about nonunion or malunion. We aimed to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of MIPO for mid-shaft clavicular fractures based on the reduced status of the interposed fragments.
Method: Fifty-seven patients who underwent MIPO for acute mid-shaft Robinson type 2B clavicular fractures were divided into two groups based on the alignment of the interposed fracture fragment.
