  • China's air quality has changed over the past decade due to industrial restructuring and pollution controls, focusing on PM (particulate matter) and ozone (O) in the Yangtze River Delta.
  • The study found that reductions in primary particles and sulfur oxides (SO) from industry and homes significantly decreased PM levels, while cutting carbon monoxide (CO) and alkenes from vehicles helped lower ozone levels.
  • Effective air quality management requires reducing nitrogen oxides (NO) from industrial sources and transportation, as well as managing agricultural ammonia (NH) to further address PM pollution and ozone threats.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between Internal Carotid Artery (ICA) kinking and ischemic stroke risk, especially focusing on different stroke subtypes like large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) and small artery occlusion (SAO).
  • A total of 419 outpatient participants were assessed using CT angiography and MRI for ICA kinking prevalence, which was found to be 31.5%, and the impact of this kinking on stroke risk was quantified using the Essen Stroke Risk Score (ESRS).
  • Results indicated that ICA kinking significantly increases stroke risk, particularly a 10.34-fold increase for SAO, suggesting that monitoring and treating carotid artery kinking could help prevent future strokes.

Introduction: Humic substances (HSs), components of plant biostimulants, are known to influence plant physiological processes, nutrient uptake and plant growth, thereby increasing crop yield. However, few studies have focused on the impact of HS on overall plant metabolism, and there is still debate over the connection between HS' structural characteristics and their stimulatory actions.

Methods: In this study, two different HSs (AHA, Aojia humic acid and SHA, Shandong humic acid) screened in a previous experiment were chosen for foliar spraying, and plant samples were collected on the tenth day after spraying (62 days after germination) to investigate the effects of different HSs on photosynthesis, dry matter accumulation, carbon and nitrogen metabolism and overall metabolism in maize leaf.
