Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated pneumonitis (CIP) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients receiving anti-PD-1 therapy, aiming to identify risk factors and their impact on prognosis.
  • Out of 229 patients analyzed, 15.3% experienced CIP, with higher occurrences among males and those with prior smoking or lung disease; elevated CD4 T lymphocytes and AEC were found to be significant predictors of CIP.
  • The presence of CIP was linked to improved progression-free survival and better treatment efficacy, highlighting the necessity for early detection and intervention.

The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) plays a central role in regulating cardiovascular activity and blood pressure. We administered hydroxylamine hydrochloride (HA), a cystathionine-β-synthase inhibitor, into the PVN to suppress endogenous hydrogen sulfide and investigate its effects on the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway in high salt (HS)-induced hypertension. We randomly divided 40 male Dahl salt-sensitive rats into 4 groups: the normal salt (NS) + PVN vehicle group, the NS + PVN HA group, the HS + PVN vehicle group, and the HS + PVN HA group, with 10 rats in each group.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) including anti-programmed death cell protein 1 (anti-PD1) and anti-programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), by disinhibiting the antitumor responses of lymphocytes, have extended survival benefits for patients in lung cancer. ICIs can also lead to a wide spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), due to dysregulation of immune reactions. Here, we report a 27-year-old female patient with adenocarcinoma of the lung treated with pembrolizumab-combined chemotherapy treatment, who complained of urinary irritation symptoms.

Lipid profiles are influenced by both noise and genetic variants. However, little is known about the associations of occupational noise and genetic variants with age-related changes in blood lipids, a crucial event in the initiation and evolution of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. We aimed to evaluate the associations of blood lipid change rates with occupational noise and genetic variants in stress hormone biosynthesis-based genes.

Efficient charge-carrier injection and transport in organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) are essential to simultaneously achieving their high efficiency and long-term stability. However, the charge-transporting layers (CTLs) deposited by various vapor or solution processes are usually in amorphous forms, and their low charge-carrier mobilities, defect-induced high trap densities and inhomogeneous thickness with rough surface morphologies have been obstacles towards high-performance devices. Here, organic single-crystalline (SC) films were employed as the hole-transporting layers (HTLs) instead of the conventional amorphous films to fabricate highly efficient and stable OLEDs.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), is characteristic by a heterogeneous tumor microenvironment and gene mutations, conveys a dismal prognosis and low response to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Here, we found that checkpoint suppressor 1 (CHES1) served as a tumor repressor in PDAC and was associated with patient prognosis. Functional experiments indicated that CHES1 suppressed the proliferation and invasion of PDAC by modulating cellular senescence.

Manipulation of genes, including knock-out or knock-in, replacement of gene elements (such as promoters), fusion with a fluorescent protein gene, and construction of gene reporter, is required in most of the biotechnological laboratories. The widely used gene manipulating methods based on two-step allelic exchange are cumbersome in terms of constructing plasmids, transforming and screening. In addition, the efficiency of using this method for long fragment knockout is low.
