An EEG & eye-tracking dataset of ALS patients & healthy people during eye-tracking-based spelling system usage.

This research presents a dataset consisting of electroencephalogram and eye tracking recordings obtained from six patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in a locked-in state and one hundred seventy healthy individuals. The ALS patients exhibited varying degrees of disease progression, ranging from partial mobility and weakened speech to complete paralysis and loss of speech. Despite these physical impairments, the ALS patients retained good eye function, which allowed them to use a virtual keyboard for communication.

Bach Mai Procedure for complete mesocolic excision, central vascular ligation, and D3 lymphadenectomy in total laparoscopic right hemicolectomy: a prospective study.

Purpose: Total laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with complete mesocolic excision (CME), central vascular ligation (CVL), and D3 lymphadenectomy is still the most challenging colon procedures for gastrointestinal surgeons. We herein report the technical details and our preliminary experience of Bach Mai Procedure - a novel-combining (cranial, medial to lateral, and caudal) approach with early resection of the terminal ileum.

Methods: The dissection stage was central vascular isolation and ligation by a combined multiple approaches in the following four steps: cranial approach, dissecting along the inferior aspect of pancreatic isthmus to reveal the middle colic vessels and the anterior aspect of the superior mesentery vein and then exposed the right gastroepiploic vein and the trunk of Henle; medial-to-lateral approach, exposing the surgical axis - the superior mesenteric vascular axis and then early resection of the terminal ileum to open the dissection from the bottom up; and caudal approach, radical ligation of the ileocecal artery and right colic artery (central vascular ligation), lymph node dissection (D3 lymphadenectomy), and resecting the Toldt fascia of the colon to release the entire right colon from the abdominal wall.

Background: Mid-aortic syndrome (MAS) is characterized by the congenital coarctation of the abdominal aorta, abdominal and limb claudication, and hypertension. The etiology of this disorder is very diverse and often manifests in conjunction with Takayasu's arteritis, Williams-Beurens syndrome, and neurofibromatosis. The isolated mid-aortic syndrome is very rare with only a few cases reported in the literature.

A giant fusiform aneurysm of the middle cerebral artery is a disease that causes many difficulties for endovascular intervention as well as surgery. No 1 solution is optimal for all cases, however for post-bifurcation aneurysms, trapping the aneurysms with a reanastomosis reimplantation, an in situ side to side bypass is feasible and has good results. We reported a 28-year-old male patient, admitted to the hospital because of severe headache, Glasgow Coma Scale 13 points, left hemiplegia, was diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage due to rupture of a giant fusiform aneurysm of the middle cerebral artery in the M2 segment, Hunt and Hess grade 4.

Background: The government of Vietnam is embarking on a radical tobacco excise tax reform, switching from the current pure ad valorem scheme to a mixed system by adding a specific component. There have been concerns raised by state-owned tobacco companies against this initiative that switching to a mixed scheme may shift consumption away from cheaper, domestic brands to more expensive, foreign brands (produced locally by joint ventures between multinational tobacco companies and domestic firms) and to illicit cigarettes, thus impairing the domestic industry, rather than reducing cigarette consumption effectively. Thin, large, well-vascularized, and axial-pattern flaps are often desired in the clinical practice of defect reconstruction to maximize esthetic and functional results. Flap prefabrication based on the neovascularization development following vascular pedicle implantation allows surgeons to create such flaps as required. Using different types of implanted vascular pedicles, the aim of the study was to identify the most effective and suitable types of pedicles for clinical use.

Two-dimensional gravitactic bioconvection in a protozoan (Tetrahymena pyriformis) culture.

Gravitactic bioconvective patterns created by Tetrahymena pyriformis in a Hele-Shaw apparatus were realized and compared with theoretical results. There were found to be two thresholds for bio-convection development: the first indicates the transition from the diffusion to the steady convection state; the second corresponds to the transition from the steady to the unsteady convection state. The results showed that the Hele-Shaw apparatus may be used as a physical analogy of porous media to study 2D bioconvection, with possible extensions to larger scale biological systems where population growth and distribution are driven by similar bio-physical interactions.

Study of the neovascularisation of prefabrication of flaps using a silicone sheet and an isolated arterial pedicle: experimental study in rabbits.

Use of an isolated artery as an implanted pedicle in prefabricated flaps has rarely been reported either clinically or experimentally. In Chinchilla Bastard rabbits (n = 36), we dissected an isolated arterial pedicle from the femoral and saphenous artery, anastomosed it end-to-end to the femoral vein at the inguinal ligament and created an isolated arterial loop pedicle. This was implanted and fixed with polyglactin 9/0 under a random-pattern vascularised abdominal fasciocutaneous flap.
