Objectives: Our study aimed to identify the complex interplay between self-efficacy, self-care practice, and glycaemic control among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (PWDs) to inform the design of more targeted and effective behavioural interventions in primary care.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed with 294 PWDs managed in primary care. The Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale (DMSES) and Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire measured patients' self-efficacy and self-care practice.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study evaluated the effectiveness of three diagnostic tools—Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm (ROMA), Copenhagen Index (CPH-I), and Ovarian Adnexal Reporting and Data System (O-RADS)—for predicting ovarian cancer in patients with ovarian tumors.
  • - Conducted on 462 patients between May 2020 and December 2022, the research found that O-RADS combined with cancer markers like CA125 provided the most accurate predictions, demonstrating high sensitivity and specificity.
  • - The results indicated that while all models showed good predictive values, the combination of O-RADS with CA125 yielded the highest predictive accuracy for ovarian cancer detection.

Objective: This study assessed the feasibility of smartphone-based colposcopy (SBC) for visual inspection of the cervix by community healthcare workers in low-resource areas.

Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted in community villages in rural Vietnam, where 177 participants were enrolled for a cervical cancer screening. Cervical images were obtained by pre-trained community healthcare workers using a portable, upcycled SBC (Samsung Galaxy Note 20).

Article Synopsis
  • The objective of the study was to find out if understanding cytology improves colposcopists' accuracy in diagnosing cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 and worse (≥ CIN2).
  • Healthcare professionals evaluated colposcopy images from 80 patient cases in two surveys, one with cytology information and one without, to see how it affected their diagnostic decisions.
  • Results showed that knowing cytology significantly increased sensitivity to 63.7% and specificity to 76.6%, indicating that better cytology information leads to more accurate diagnoses of ≥ CIN2 lesions.

Background: Vietnam is undergoing a rapid epidemiological transition with a considerable burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), especially hypertension and diabetes (T2DM). Continuity of care (COC) is widely acknowledged as a benchmark for an efficient health system. This study aimed to determine the COC level for hypertension and T2DM within and across care levels and to investigate its associations with health outcomes and disease control.

Background: Interprofessional education (IPE) is expected to help prepare undergraduate health profession students to collaborate with other healthcare professionals in realising quality of care. Studies stress the necessity of students' readiness for interprofessional learning (IPL) in view of designing IPE programs. The present study aims to determine students' IPL-readiness and looks at related differences in students enrolled in different programs and at different phases in their educational program.

Background: In clinical obstetrics, many guidelines recommended the use of Doppler fetal ductus venosus blood flow to monitor and to manage fetal growth restriction (FGR). The ductus venosus and the pulmonary venous flow pattern of fetuses are similar. Umbilical artery pH (UA pH) is essential in identifying adverse pregnancy outcomes, particularly in fetal growth restriction cases.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical length (CL) and uterocervical angle (UCA) are both examined to predict the risk of spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) in pregnant women between 16-23 weeks of gestation.
  • The study found that UCA significantly differs between preterm and full-term pregnancies, with UCA values being larger in those who delivered preterm.
  • A correlation was observed where a higher UCA (>95°) was associated with increased chances of preterm birth, suggesting its potential role as a predictive tool in prenatal care.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effect of a newborn care education program using ubiquitous learning (UL-NCEP) on exclusive breastfeeding and maternal role confidence of first-time mothers in Vietnam.

Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design was conducted at a university hospital in Hue city, Vietnam, between June and July 2018. Eligible first-time mothers were conveniently allocated to the experimental (n=27) and the control group (n=25).

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and determine the optimal cut-off point of the ADNEX model in women presenting with a pelvic or adnexal tumor. Method: All women presented with adnexal mass and were scheduled for operation at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Hue Central Hospital, Vietnam during June 2019 – May 2021 were included and categorized according to their histopathologic reports into ovarian cancer groups and benign ovarian tumor groups. Multivariable logistic regression was used to explore for potential predictors.

Background: Global warming, lifestyle, or working in a high temperature environment leads to have increased health risk factors. This meta-analysis was conducted to determine the impact of high ambient temperature on male reproductive function.

Methods: Scientific articles were screened in the database including MEDLINE, EMBASE, National center for biotechnology information (NCBI) or Web of Science with relating keywords.

Background: Cervical cancer is a significant public health problem, with 570,000 new cases and 300,000 deaths of women per year globally, mostly in low- and middle-income countries. In 2018 the WHO Director General made a call to action for the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem.

Main Body: New thinking on programmatic approaches to introduce emerging technologies and screening and treatment interventions of cervical precancer at scale is needed to achieve elimination goals.

Background: Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is one of the leading causes of early neonatal morbidity and mortality in late preterm infants (LPIs) worldwide. This matched cohort study aimed to assess how the antenatal dexamethasone use affect the respiratory distress (RD) proportion in preterm newborns between 34 0/7 weeks and 36 6/7 weeks of gestation.

Methods: This was a prospective cohort study on 78 women with singleton pregnancy who were in threatened preterm birth and had not received prior dexamethasone, who were admitted between 34 0/7 weeks and 36 6/7 weeks at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from June 2018 to May 2020.

The aim of this study is to determine whether the myocardial performance index (MPI) is increased in fetal growth restriction (FGR) fetuses and if increased MPI is related to adverse outcomes of FGR. This is a prospective cross-sectional study. Seventy-three late-onset FGR fetuses and 97 gestational-age matched control fetuses were enrolled in this study.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the role of sperm DNA fragmentation as a marker that could predict early pregnancy loss (EPL), either independently or in combination with another marker or markers, after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles.

Methods: This prospective descriptive cohort study retrieved data from 162 couples who underwent their first ICSI cycles at the Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility of Hue University Hospital in Vietnam from May 2018 to December 2019. General characteristics, semen parameters, sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI), fertilization, embryo development, pregnancy rates, and EPL were assessed.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performances of the Copenhagen Index (CPH-I) and Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm (ROMA) in the preoperative prediction of ovarian cancer.

Methods: In a prospective cohort study, data were collected from 475 patients with ovarian masses diagnosed by gynecologic examination / ultrasound who were hospitalized at the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Hue Central Hospital, Vietnam, between January 2018 and June 2020. ROMA and CPH-I were calculated based on measurements of serum carbohydrate antigen (CA-125) and human epididymis protein (HE4).
