The toxicity of the contaminated powder contributed to toxic aflatoxins has been well-known in the literature. However, before this study, the specific fungal strain behind aflatoxin production remained unidentified. Our research aimed to isolate and identify fungi from the tainted sandwiches while also assessing the preservation of sandwiches in ambient conditions.

Twelve compounds were isolated from aerial parts through phytochemical analysis and the genus is the first place where the compounds 4-6 and 11-12 have been found. Based on the ability to inhibit NO production in RAW264.7 cells, compound 2 has demonstrated the strongest anti-inflammatory activity with an IC of 7.

Seven flavonoid glycosides were isolated from the aerial portions of during a phytochemical analysis. This comprised one novel component, ecurvoside, and six well-studied compounds, namely astragalin, isoquercitrin, nicotiflorin, rutin, hesperidin, and neohesperidin. The chemical structures of compounds were identified using spectroscopic techniques and a comparison with previously published studies.

GC-MS was applied to identify 24 main substances in essential oil () extracted from fresh cajeput leaves through steam distilling. The inhibitory capability of active compounds in the from Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam over the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) protein in human body - the host receptor for SARS-CoV-2 and the main protease (PDB6LU7) of the SARS-CoV-2 using docking simulation has been studied herein. The results indicate that the ACE2 and PDB6LU7 proteins were strongly inhibited by 10 out of 24 compounds accounting for 70.

Article Synopsis
  • The study identified 18 active substances in garlic essential oil, primarily focusing on 17 organosulfur compounds using GC-MS analysis.
  • It reports for the first time the ability of these compounds to inhibit the ACE2 protein, which is important for coronavirus entry into human cells, along with interactions with SARS-CoV-2's main protease protein (PDB6LU7).
  • The findings suggest that garlic essential oil, especially its key ingredients like allyl disulfide and allyl trisulfide, could be a natural antiviral agent effective against the coronavirus.

The formation oxytetracycline (OTC) degradation products in chicken and pork under two different methods of cooking were studied. Samples of chicken and pig muscles previously dosed with OTC residues were subjected to boiling or microwave treatment, and the residues were extracted in a mixture of citrate buffer-MeOH (75:25 v/v), and then analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection using a XBridgeTM C18 reverse-phase chromatographic column. Thermal treatment resulted in the degradation of OTC and the concentrations of the degradation products α-apo-oxytetracycline (α-apo-OTC) and β-apo-oxytetracycline (β-apo-OTC) in muscle samples amounted to 0.
