Introduction: Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is generally given using pro re nata or "treat-and-extend" (T&E) regimens for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). Randomized clinical trials have reported that T&E is superior to Pro re nata (PRN), but results from clinical trials may not always be replicated in clinical practice. Real-world data comparing T&E and PRN regimens for nAMD are limited.

Understanding the combined effects of risk factors on all-cause mortality is crucial for implementing effective risk stratification and designing targeted interventions, but such combined effects are understudied. We aim to use survival-tree based machine learning models as more flexible nonparametric techniques to examine the combined effects of multiple physiological risk factors on mortality. More specifically, we (1) study the combined effects between multiple physiological factors and all-cause mortality, (2) identify the five most influential factors and visualize their combined influence on all-cause mortality, and (3) compare the mortality cut-offs with the current clinical thresholds.

Background & Aims: Restricted gastric motor functions contribute to aging-associated undernutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty. We previously identified a decline in interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC; gastrointestinal pacemaker and neuromodulator cells) and their stem cells (ICC-SC) as a key factor of gastric aging. Altered functionality of the histone methyltransferase enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is central to organismal aging.

Titanium dioxide (TiO) based photocatalysts have been widely used as a photocatalyst for the degradation of various persistent organic compounds in water and air. The degradation mechanism involves the generation of highly reactive oxygen species, such as hydroxyl radicals, which react with organic compounds to break down their chemical bonds and ultimately mineralize them into harmless products. In the case of pharmaceutical and pesticide molecules, TiOand modified TiOphotocatalysis effectively degrade a wide range of compounds, including antibiotics, pesticides, and herbicides.

A landslide involves the downward movement of a mass of rock, debris, earth, or soil. Landslides happen when gravitational forces and other types of shear stresses on a slope surpass the shear strength of the materials. Additionally, landslides can be triggered by processes that weaken the shear strength of the slope's material.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the potential of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) assays for detecting early cancer signals and focuses on improving the identification of the tissue-of-origin (TOO) for these signals using a tumor-specific methylation atlas (TSMA).
  • - Researchers created the TSMA from whole-genome bisulfite sequencing data of five cancer types and found that while it effectively identifies tumor tissues, it struggles with cfDNA samples due to a higher presence of DNA from white blood cells.
  • - By utilizing a graph convolutional neural network model that combines TSMA deconvolution scores and methylation density features, the study achieved a 69% accuracy rate in identifying TOO from low-depth cfDNA samples in validation tests.

The association between sleep and the immune-endocrine system is well recognized, but the nature of that relationship is not well understood. Sleep fragmentation induces a pro-inflammatory response in peripheral tissues and brain, but it also activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, releasing glucocorticoids (GCs) (cortisol in humans and corticosterone in mice). It is unclear whether this rapid release of glucocorticoids acts to potentiate or dampen the inflammatory response in the short term.

A search is presented for baryon number violating interactions in top quark production and decay. The analysis uses data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1}. Candidate events are selected by requiring two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons) and exactly one jet identified as originating from a bottom quark.
