A quinoline derivative 7-((2-aminoethyl)amino)-5-bromo-6-hydroxy-1-methylquinolin-1-ium-3-sulfonate (QEt) containing quinoline ring, - sulfonate, -OH phenol, and amine groups was synthesized and studied luminescence properties. The aqueous solutions QEt 10µM change luminescence color from green (λ = 490 nm) to yellow (λ = 563 nm) as increasing pH and the intensity at a peak of 563 nm is linearly proportional with pH value in the range of pH = 3,0-4,0. This paper evaluated the inhibitory effect of 3-O-[β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-d-glucuronopyranosyl] oleanolic acid 28-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl ester (PFS), a major saponin isolated from Polyscias fruticosa leaves, on α-amylase and α-glucosidase, and its potential for reducing the postprandial blood glucose level in mice. In enzyme inhibition assays, PFS strongly inhibited porcine pancreas α-amylase and yeast α-glucosidase. Using the Lineweaver-Burk equation, we found that PFS inhibited porcine pancreas α-amylase in a mixed noncompetitive mode, and yeast α-glucosidase via noncompetitive inhibition.

A new 3-methoxybenzensulfonic acid 4-0-0-D-glucopyranoside (1), and ten known compounds (2-11) were isolated from the methanolic extract of the stems of Mallotus microcarpus. The taxonomic position of a Gram-positive, non-motile, non-spore-forming coryneform, isolated from activated sludge and designated strain CAU 212(T), was investigated using a polyphasic approach. Cellular morphology, biochemical tests and chemotaxonomic investigations revealed that strain CAU 212(T) had the characteristics of the genus Corynebacterium. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the organism formed a hitherto-unknown subline within the genus Corynebacterium.
