Deep generative models (DGM) are increasingly employed in emergent communication systems. However, their application in multimodal data contexts is limited. This study proposes a novel model that combines multimodal DGM with the Metropolis-Hastings (MH) naming game, enabling two agents to focus jointly on a shared subject and develop common vocabularies.

Article Synopsis
  • - A new eco-friendly method was developed for detecting low levels of four herbicides, specifically glyphosate, glufosinate, and their main metabolites, using solid-phase extraction with Chelex-100 resin and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography paired with mass spectrometry.
  • - The method was validated in various water types, achieving recovery rates between 80.1% and 109.4%, with low detection limits ranging from 0.70 to 4.7 ng/L for the herbicides and metabolites.
  • - Successful application of this method in surface waters from the Red River Delta revealed significant concentrations of herbicides and metabolites, highlighting its effectiveness for monitoring environmental water quality.

Objective: Lack of representative data about hidden groups, like men who have sex with men (MSM), hinders an evidence-based response to the HIV epidemics. Respondent-driven sampling (RDS) was developed to overcome sampling challenges in studies of populations like MSM for which sampling frames are absent. Internet-based RDS (webRDS) can potentially circumvent limitations of the original RDS method.

We examined changes in the abundance of immature Aedes aegypti at the household and water storage container level during the dry-season (June-July, 2008) in Tri Nguyen village, central Vietnam. We conducted quantitative immature mosquito surveys of 171 containers in the same 41 households, with replacement of samples, every two days during a 29-day period. We developed multi-level mixed effects regression models to investigate container and household variability in pupal abundance.

An all-optical flip-flop with inverted output is presented. The flip-flop is realized based on the optical bistability of an injection-locked single-mode Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD). The operation principle is explained and experimental results are presented in this paper.
