Background: Postoperative complications and extended length of stays (LOS) following lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain significant healthcare and economic burdens, especially in developing countries with limited resources. This study evaluated the effectiveness of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in addressing these issues.

Methods: This observational study compared two groups of patients, utilizing a prospective arm for ERAS and a retrospective arm for routine care.

HLA Compatibility and Graft Survival Rates Among Related and Unrelated Donors in Renal Transplantation.

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) compatibility between donors and recipients plays a critical role in graft survival in renal transplantation. This study evaluates the impact of HLA mismatching on graft survival and rejection among renal transplant recipients with related and unrelated donors, considering factors such as age, sex, ABO blood type, and anti-HLA antibodies. We investigated the graft survival rates between related and unrelated donors in a prospective cohort study conducted from 2018 to 2020 at Cho Ray Hospital and People's Hospital 115 in Vietnam, involving 126 related and 82 unrelated donor-recipient pairs.

Single-port Thoracoscopic Laser Sympathicotomy for Primary Hyperhidrosis: A Safe and Minimally Invasive Approach With Favorable Short-term Outcomes.

Objective: Thoracoscopic sympathicotomy is a well-established treatment for severe palmar hyperhidrosis. This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of a novel one-stage, bilateral, single-port laser sympathicotomy with minimal dissection.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 73 patients with severe palmar hyperhidrosis who underwent this novel surgical technique between June 2023 and October 2023.

FOLFOXIRI for First-Line Treatment of Unresectable Colorectal Cancer with Liver Metastases in a Resource-Limited Setting.

Purpose: FOLFOXIRI is a standard treatment for unresectable colorectal cancer (CRC) liver metastases. However, limited data exists on its safety and effectiveness in low-to-middle-income countries (LMICs). This prospective study addresses this gap in a Vietnamese LMIC setting.

Reporting ethical approval in case reports and case series in 12 consecutive years: A systematic review.

Our study describes the reported rate of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, declaration of Helsinki (DoH), and informed consent in the case reports and case series and investigates factors associated with the ethical approval report. We searched PubMed for case reports and case series from 2006 to 2017. Annually, we obtained the first 20 articles of a case report cluster from 20 distinct publications.

Enhancing Vagal Tone, Modulating Heart Rate Variability with Auricular Acupressure at Point Zero: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Introduction: Point Zero located within the vagus nerve's auricular branch shows promise in addressing imbalances. This study aims to explore its effects on vagal activity using auricular acupressure (AA), measured through heart rate variability (HRV).

Methods: This single-blinded randomized controlled trial involved 114 healthy volunteers randomly assigned to receive AA (AA group, = 57) or sham-AA (SA group, = 57) at Point Zero.

Kinetics of cardiovascular and inflammatory biomarkers in paediatric dengue shock syndrome.

Glycocalyx disruption and hyperinflammatory responses are implicated in the pathogenesis of dengue-associated vascular leak, however little is known about their association with clinical outcomes of patients with dengue shock syndrome (DSS). We investigated the association of vascular and inflammatory biomarkers with clinical outcomes and their correlations with clinical markers of vascular leakage. We performed a prospective cohort study in Viet Nam.

Efficacy of Shen Cao Gan Jiang Tang on Non-severe COVID-19 Patients: A Multicenter, Randomized, Open-Label Clinical Trial.

Background In the face of the escalating COVID-19 pandemic amid shortages of medications and vaccines, a Vietnamese herbal formula known as Shen Cao Gan Jiang Tang (SCGJT) has been put into use for non-severe COVID-19 patients. This study aims to assess its efficacy and safety. Methods A multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial was conducted on 300 patients with non-severe COVID-19, randomly assigned into two groups: 150 receiving standard care (control group) and 150 receiving additional SCGJT for 10 days (SCGJT group).

Long-term outcomes of surgical reconstruction for post-tuberculosis tracheobronchial stenosis: a 7-year follow-up in a tuberculosis-endemic region.

Background: Surgical reconstruction is often necessary for severe tracheobronchial stenosis resulting from tuberculosis (TB). However, the long-term efficacy of this approach remains unclear. Background: The association between postoperative complications and long-term survival after laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for gastric cancer (GC) remains uncertain. This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors of postoperative complications and evaluate their impact on survival outcomes in patients undergoing LG.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 621 patients who underwent LG for gastric adenocarcinoma between March 2015 and December 2021.

Background: Auricular acupuncture (AA) has been widely used in overweight and obesity management due to its safety and effectiveness. The combination of other acupuncture therapies with thread-embedding acupuncture (TEA) has shown enhanced effects. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding AA plus TEA for overweight and obesity.

Dengue viremia kinetics and effects on platelet count and clinical outcomes: An analysis of 2340 patients from Vietnam.

Background: Viremia is a critical factor in understanding the pathogenesis of dengue infection, but limited data exist on viremia kinetics. This study aimed to investigate the kinetics of viremia and its effects on subsequent platelet count, severe dengue, and plasma leakage.

Methods: We pooled data from three studies conducted in Vietnam between 2000 and 2016, involving 2340 dengue patients with daily viremia measurements and platelet counts after symptom onset.

Laparoscopic versus open total gastrectomy for T4a gastric cancer: a propensity score-matched analysis of long-term outcomes.

Evidence of implementation of laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) for surgical T4a stage (sT4a) gastric cancer (GC) remains inadequate. This study aimed to compare short- and long-term outcomes of LTG versus open total gastrectomy (OTG) for sT4a GC. This retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from patients with sT4a GC underwent total gastrectomy from 2014 to 2020.

The relationship between bisphenol A and phthalates with precocious puberty in Vietnamese children.

Objectives: This study is aimed to explore the correlation between bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, including diethylhexylphthalate (DEHP) and dibutylphthalate (DBP), and precocious puberty (PP).

Methods: A case-control study was conducted in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from November 2021 to April 2022, involving 250 children, with 124 of them diagnosed with PP and 126 serving as controls. We assessed the levels of urinary BPA, DEHP, and DBP in all participants and examined their association with the risk of PP.

Endothelial and inflammatory pathophysiology in dengue shock: New insights from a prospective cohort study in Vietnam.

Dengue shock (DS) is the most severe complication of dengue infection; endothelial hyperpermeability leads to profound plasma leakage, hypovolaemia and extravascular fluid accumulation. At present, the only treatment is supportive with intravenous fluid, but targeted endothelial stabilising therapies and host immune modulators are needed. With the aim of prioritising potential therapeutics, we conducted a prospective observational study of adults (≥16 years) with DS in Vietnam from 2019-2022, comparing the pathophysiology underlying circulatory failure with patients with septic shock (SS), and investigating the association of biomarkers with clinical severity (SOFA score, ICU admission, mortality) and pulmonary vascular leak (daily lung ultrasound for interstitial and pleural fluid).

Auricular Acupuncture Prior to Menstruation Can Reduce Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: Primary dysmenorrhea is a common condition that impacts quality of life significantly. Auricular therapies have shown promise for treating primary dysmenorrhea, but there is a lack of evidence specifically for auricular acupuncture (AA). This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of AA for managing primary dysmenorrhea.

Introduction The use of acupuncture has been suggested for the treatment of neck pain. Recently, a large body of evidence demonstrated that acupuncture has an effect on microcirculation in pain regions, but the exact mechanism remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the skin surface thermographic changes in the posterior neck associated with manual acupuncture at the Houxi (SI-3) acupoint.

Early safety and mid-term clinical outcomes of technology transfer of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis in Vietnam: a single-center experience of 90 patients.

Background: This study investigated the early safety and mid-term outcomes of stepwise implementation of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in Vietnamese patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) at a single center, following the process of technical transfer.

Methods: From 2017 to 2022, 90 patients with symptomatic severe AS underwent TAVI at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam. The first 30 cases received support for technology transfer from international proctors.

Stomach-partitioning versus conventional gastrojejunostomy for unresectable gastric cancer with gastric outlet obstruction: A propensity score matched cohort study.

Background: Stomach partitioning gastrojejunostomy (SPGJ) was introduced to deal with delayed gastric emptying (DGE). This study aimed to compare the short- and long-term outcomes of SPGJ versus conventional gastrojejunostomy (CGJ).

Method: This cohort study analyzed 108 patients who underwent gastrojejunostomy for unresectable gastric cancer: 70 patients underwent SPGJ, and 38 patients underwent CGJ between 2018 and 2022.

Background: Subclavian artery stenosis and occlusion are common arterial diseases in the upper extremities, with atherosclerosis being the main cause. Endovascular treatment has emerged as a promising alternative to open surgical repair, but data are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of endovascular procedures in the treatment of subclavian artery lesions at a tertiary vascular center in Vietnam.

Thread-embedding acupuncture may improve symptom resolution in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Various traditional medicine treatments have been investigated to treat GERD. Among those, thread-embedding acupuncture (TEA) has the advantage that patients need to undergo the procedure infrequently; however, its efficacy is unclear.
