Background And Aims: Follicular-patterned thyroid tumors (FPTTs) are frequently encountered in thyroid pathology, encompassing follicular adenoma (FA), follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC), noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP), and follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (fvPTC). Recently, a distinct entity termed differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma has been described by the 5th edition of the WHO classification of the thyroid tumors, categorized as either high-grade fvPTC, high-grade FTC or high-grade oncocytic carcinoma of the thyroid (OCA). Accurate differentiation among these lesions, particular between the benign (FA), borderline (NIFTP) and malignant neoplasms (FTC and fvPTC), remains a challenge in both histopathological and cytological diagnoses.

Labels with structural color based on photonic crystals (PCs) have drawn significant attention due to their unique color emission, offering promising solutions for anti-counterfeiting applications. However, to meet the demands of future high-security applications, conventional structural color labels require further improvement. This study introduces a novel approach to fabricate highly encrypted anti-counterfeiting labels by combining close-packed and non-close-packed monolayers of nanoparticles (NPs) onto adhesive surfaces.

This study effectively fabricated photocatalytic membranes (∼5 cm diameter) assembled by γ-AlOOH-PVA (BOP) decorated heterostructural ZIF-67/AgCl/Ag composites by combing seeded secondary growth and photoreduction methods. First, the ZIF-67-seeded BOP membrane was shaped in a petri dish, followed by submerging in a 2-methylimidazole ligand for secondary growth to obtain the BOP/ZIF-67 membrane. Next, AgCl/Ag was formulated on the membrane by dipping it in an AgNO solution, followed by a photoreduction under visible LED light, resulting in a BOP/ZIF/AgCl/Ag membrane.

We investigate hydrogen sorption on open copper sites in various ligand coordinations of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), including the triangular T(CuL) in MFU-4l, the linear L(CuL) in NU2100, and the paddlewheel P(CuL) in HKUST-1 from an electronic structure perspective using DFT calculations. The ligand-field-induced splitting of d states and spd hybridizations in copper are thoroughly examined. The hybridization between Cu s, p, and d orbitals occurs in various forms to optimize the Coulomb repulsion of different ligand fields.

Using as a food-grade carrier to create non-GMO whole-cell biocatalysts is gaining popularity. This work evaluates the immobilization yield of a chitosanase (CsnA, 30 kDa) from and a mannanase (ManB, 40 kDa) from on the surface of WCFS1 using either a single LysM domain derived from the extracellular transglycosylase Lp_3014 or a double LysM domain derived from the muropeptidase Lp_2162. ManB and CsnA were fused with the LysM domains of Lp_3014 or Lp_2162, produced in and anchored to the cell surface of .

Nanogap biosensors have emerged as promising platforms for detecting and measuring biochemical substances at low concentrations. Although the nanogap biosensors provide high sensitivity, low limit of detection (LOD), and enhanced signal strength, it requires arduous fabrication processes and costly equipment to obtain micro/nanoelectrodes with extremely narrow gaps in a controlled manner. In this work, we report the novel design and fabrication processes of vertical nanogap structures that can electrically detect and quantify low-concentration biochemical substances.

The visual response is one of the most intuitive principles of sensors. Therefore, emission and change of the colors are widely studied for development of chemical, thermal and mechanical sensors. And it is still a challenging issue to fabricate them with a simple working mechanism, high sensitivity, good reliability, and a cost-effective fabrication process.

The human P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and the NorA transporter are the major culprits of multidrug resistance observed in various bacterial strains and cancer cell lines, by extruding drug molecules out of the targeted cells, leading to treatment failures in clinical settings. Inhibiting the activity of these efflux pumps has been a well-known strategy of drug design studies in this regard. In this manuscript, our earlier published machine learning models and homology structures of P-gp and NorA were utilized to screen a chemolibrary of 95 in-house chalcone derivatives, identifying two hit compounds, namely, F88 and F90, as potential modulators of both transporters, whose activity on strains overexpressing NorA and resistant to ciprofloxacin was subsequently confirmed.

In this study, we report a method to fabricate molds and flexible stamps with 2D photonic crystal structures. This includes self-assembly of polystyrene particles into monolayer, oxygen reactive ion etching, thin film (chromium (Cr)) deposition, and polydimethylsiloxane replication. By tuning the thickness of Cr layer, reusable master molds with nano bumps or nano concaves could be prepared selectively.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have attracted increasing interest recently as cell factories for the production of proteins as well as a carrier of proteins that are of interest for food and therapeutic applications. In this present study, we exploit a lactobacillal food-grade expression system derived from the pSIP expression vectors using the (alanine racemase) gene as the selection marker for the expression and cell-surface display of a chitosanase in using two truncated forms of a LP × TG anchor. CsnA, a chitosanase from 168 (ATCC23857), was fused to two different truncated forms (short-S and long-L anchors) of an LP × TG anchor derived from Lp_1229, a key-protein for mannose-specific adhesion in WCFS1.

Tannery wastewater is known to contain high concentrations of organic compounds, heavy metals, nitrogen, sulphur, chromium, and many other chemicals. Both aerobic and anaerobic biological approaches have proven ineffective in the treatment of tannery wastewater due to the high salinity and toxic chemicals contained within the medium. Electrochemical oxidation presents a promising method for solving this problem.

A thermo-elastic contact problem of functionally graded materials (FGMs) rotating brake disk with different pure brake pad areas under temperature dependent material properties is solved by Finite Element Method (FEM). The properties of brake disk change gradually from metal to ceramic by power-law distribution along the radial direction from the inner to the outer surface. Areas of the pure pad are changing while the vertical force is constant.
