Ultrasound-Guided Sialendoscopy Surgery for Parotid Sialolithiasis Using Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG)-Holmium Laser: A Prospective Case Series.

Background: Parotid sialolithiasis is a common condition in middle-aged individuals, with most cases occurring in the submandibular and sublingual glands, followed by the parotid glands and minor salivary glands. The treatment of salivary gland stones, particularly those of the parotid glands, remains challenging. Endoscopic surgery using a yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG)-holmium laser for parotid sialolithiasis is a minimally invasive approach that provides effective treatment for patients.

Successful Endoscopic Disconnection for Hypothalamic Hamartomas in a Child with Gelastic Seizures: An Unusual Case in a Resource-Scare Setting.

Although the endoscopic disconnection surgery for the hamartomas was previously shown as a safe and effective treatment strategy in eliminating gelastic epilepsy, to date, there was no convincing evidence with this procedure in the resource-scare settings. We discuss an unusual case of a 7-year-old child who suffered from pharmacoresistant gelastic seizures was surgically treated with the endoscopic disconnection of the hypothalamic hamartomas. The patient underwent endoscopic surgery through the left ventricle approach to disconnect the lesion of the hypothalamus.

Safety of Balloon Kyphoplasty in the Treatment of Thoracic Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures in Vietnamese Patients.

Background: The evidence for the efficacy and safety of balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) in treating the Vietnamese patients is sparse. There is no convincing evidence regarding BKP's efficacy in Vietnamese patients, especially in the patients with thoracic osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (VCFs). This article aims to evaluate the outcomes of restoring the body height of the compressed thoracic vertebrae in patients undergoing BKP.

Outpatient Waiting Time at Vietnam Health Facilities: Policy Implications for Medical Examination Procedure.

Our study aims to measure outpatient waiting times at Vietnam health facilities according to the socioeconomic characteristics. We employed the 2015 Vietnam District and Commune Health Facility Survey which was a cross-sectional study designed by the World Bank in collaboration with the Vietnam Health Strategy and Policy Institute. This survey was designed to be representative of six provinces (Dien Bien, Hanoi, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, and Dong Thap) drawn from six distinct geographical regions of Vietnam.

Thoracoscopic surgery approach to mediastinal mature teratomas: a single-center experience.

Background: Mediastinal mature teratomas are rare tumors with diverse surgical approaches. The aim of this study is to review our experience of thoracoscopic surgery management in patients with teratomas.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 28 consecutive patients with mediastinal mature teratomas who underwent thoracoscopic surgery at Viet Duc University Hospital from January 2008 to August2018.

The effectiveness of knee osteoarthritis treatment by arthroscopic microfracture technique in combination with autologous bone marrow stem cells transplantation.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients by using microfracture technique in combination with autologous bone marrow stem cell transplantation.

Methods: A clinical study was conducted between November 2011 and January 2015 and involved 46 patients (aged from 46 to 69) with primary knee OA grade II and III (according to Kellgren-Lawrence classification) at the Orthopedic Trauma Department, Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital. Patients were randomly assigned to receive knee arthroscopy and then bone-marrow stem cells from their pelvic bones via injection.

Preparation and properties of silver nanoparticles loaded in activated carbon for biological and environmental applications.

Silver nanoparticles colloid has been prepared by a modified sonoelectrodeposition technique in which a silver plate was used as the source of silver ions. This technique allows producing Ag nanoparticles with the size of 4-30 nm dispersed in a non-toxic solution. The Ag nanoparticles were loaded in a high surface activated carbon produced from coconut husk, a popular agricultural waste in Vietnam by thermal activation.
