Article Synopsis
  • This research focused on extracting phenolics and terpenoids from (Kurz) Merr roots using innovative natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs), identifying the best combinations as citric acid/glucose and lactic acid/glucose.
  • The study optimized extraction conditions using ultrasonic and microwave techniques, detailing specific liquid-to-solid ratios, ultrasonic power, and water content for maximum recovery of the desired compounds.
  • It concluded that the ultrasonic-microwave-assisted extraction method yielded the highest amounts of phenolic and terpenoid compounds, showcasing superior biological activity compared to other extraction methods.

This research combined ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) and natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES) to recover phenolic and flavonoid components from mangosteen rind. The antioxidant activities were determined using DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl assays. NADES prepared from lactic and 1,2-propanediol had the highest extraction efficiency based on the total flavonoid content (TFC) and phenolic contents (TPC).
