Objectives: To evaluate a co-designed intervention using digital resources "Vietnam Cancer Caring Coping" (V-CCC) on the health literacy, depression, and quality of life of caregivers supporting a cancer patient in oncology hospitals in Vietnam.

Methods: A pre-post quantitative evaluation with adult cancer caregivers across regional Oncology hospitals in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Hue). Participants completed baseline and follow-up measures of health literacy (HLS-SF12) depression (PHQ-9) and Health-related Quality of Life (5Q-5D-5L).

Interprofessional education is acknowledged as an efficacious strategy for fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, especially in developing countries where interdisciplinarity and cooperation among healthcare practitioners are notably deficient. The present study aimed to investigate the readiness among medical, pharmacy, public health, and nursing faculties for development of an IPE curriculum at a university in Vietnam. Employing a quantitative approach, the revised version of the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) questionnaire, comprising 19 items, was utilized to gather data from sixty-nine lecturers, including 26 medicine, 23 pharmacy, 11 public health, and 9 nursing faculties.

Molecular data from samples encompassing 22 nominal species of indicate that the species-level diversity in the genus has been vastly overestimated, likely due to inadequate taxon and geographic sampling and reliance on morphological characters that vary intra-specifically. The latter includes discrete mouth morphologies related to alternate feeding strategies (ecomorphs) within populations. One new species is described, Hoàng, Phạm & Trần, , and 17 synonyms of six valid species names of , , , , , , and , are recognised.

Background: Hyperfunctional platelets play important roles in thromboembolism in patients with β-thalassaemia/ haemoglobin E (β-thal/HbE). Our previous study revealed ex vivo inhibitory effects of deferiprone on normal platelets. Herein, we aimed to investigate the in vivo effects on platelets in patients with β-thal/HbE.

X-ray screening is an important tool in tuberculosis (TB) prevention and care, but access has historically been restricted by its immobile nature. As recent advancements have improved the portability of modern X-ray systems, this study represents an early evaluation of the safety, image quality and yield of using an ultra-portable X-ray system for active case finding (ACF). We reported operational and radiological performance characteristics and compared image quality between the ultra-portable and two reference systems.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied the migration pathways of the endangered Mekong River catfish, Pangasius krempfi, by analyzing strontium isotope ratios and trace element concentrations in water and fish otoliths to determine their natal origins.
  • The study found that while trace element concentrations did not provide clear distinctions for migration routes, strontium isotopes successfully differentiated between the mainstream, tributaries, and distributaries of the Mekong.
  • It was revealed that P. krempfi has three main groups that hatch in freshwater and migrate to the Mekong Delta, but their spawning habitats face threats from habitat changes and hydropower dams, emphasizing the need for collaborative conservation efforts among countries along the river.

Objective: In Vietnam, motorcycle riders comprise about three-quarters of road traffic fatalities, the most common cause of which is head injuries that can be prevented by wearing a helmet. This study aims to assess helmet-wearing behaviors in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam.

Methods: Eight rounds of observational studies were conducted in six randomly selected locations between July 2015 and April 2019.

Thalassemia patients are susceptible to both iron overload and thromboembolism. Deferiprone is an iron chelator that shows an antiplatelet activity and thus may alleviate platelet hyperactivation in thalassemia. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize the inhibitory effects and mechanisms of deferiprone on normal human platelets.

Context: Alcohol contributes to severe social and health problems and is a major risk factor for noncommunicable diseases in Vietnam. Over the years, there has been an increase in consumption per capita as well as a rapid expansion of commercially prepared alcohol.

Objective: To describe the prevalence of alcohol consumption and binge drinking in a random sample of people 15 years of age and older living in Chi Linh who were also a part of the Chi Linh Health and Demographic Surveillance System (CHILILAB HDSS) and to determine the association between alcohol use and sociodemographic characteristics.

Two new species and two new basin records of mahseers in the genera Tor and Neolissochilus are described from the upper Krong No and middle Đồng Nai drainages of the Langbiang Plateau in southern Vietnam. These new species and new records are known from streams and rivers in montane mixed pine and evergreen forests between 140 and 1112 m. Their populations are isolated in the Sre Pok River of the Mekong basin, the middle of the Đồng Nai basin, and the An Lão River.

Two new species of large shovel-jaw carps in the genus Onychostoma are described from the upper Krong No and middle Dong Nai drainages of the Langbiang Plateau in southern Vietnam. These new species are known from streams in montane mixed pine and evergreen forests between 140 and 1112 m. Their populations are isolated in the headwaters of the upper Sre Pok River of the Mekong basin and in the middle of the Dong Nai basin.

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (encoded by PCSK9) plays a well-known role in the regulation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors, and an inhibitor of this enzyme is a promising new therapeutic for hyperlipidemia. Recently, animal and human studies also implicate PCSK9 genetic variation in the regulation of blood pressure. The goal of this study was to examine if common and rare polymorphisms in PCSK9 are associated with blood pressure in an African-American population at high risk for cardiovascular disease.

Aim: To determine if doxorubicin (Dox) alters hepatic proteome acetylation status and if acetylation status was associated with an apoptotic environment.

Methods: Doxorubicin (20 mg/kg; Sigma, Saint Louis, MO; n = 8) or NaCl (0.9%; n = 7) was administered as an intraperitoneal injection to male F344 rats, 6-wk of age.

Doxorubicin (Dox) is one of the most effective chemotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of several types of cancer. However the use is limited by cardiotoxicity. Despite extensive investigation into the mechanisms of toxicity and preventative strategies, Dox-induced cardiotoxicity still remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer survivors.

Background: Doxorubicin treatment is known to cause muscular weakness. However, the cellular mechanisms have not been elucidated. We aimed to determine the effects of acute doxorubicin treatment on proteome lysine acetylation status, an indication of the apoptotic and inflammatory environment, and the expression and activation of various apical caspases involved in the initiation of apoptosis.
