Purpose: To evaluate visual outcomes and quality of vision following bilateral implantation of a hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) in eyes targeted for emmetropia.

Methods: This was a prospective, single arm study. Subjects were bilaterally implanted with the Clareon PanOptix IOL and evaluated at 1 and 3 months postoperatively.

Evaluating the Scope of Services and Monetary Impact of Charity Medical Clinics in North Texas.

Introduction/objectives: The cost of medical services is a major barrier to healthcare accessibility for underserved populations in the United States. Community charity medical clinics help address this disparity by providing free or reduced-cost care for the medically underinsured; however, their economic and public health contributions are unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the scope of services and monetary impact of 4 community charity medical clinics in North Texas, with one of the largest medically underinsured populations in the United States.

Indigenous oyster fisheries persisted for millennia and should inform future management.

Historical ecology has revolutionized our understanding of fisheries and cultural landscapes, demonstrating the value of historical data for evaluating the past, present, and future of Earth's ecosystems. Despite several important studies, Indigenous fisheries generally receive less attention from scholars and managers than the 17th-20th century capitalist commercial fisheries that decimated many keystone species, including oysters. We investigate Indigenous oyster harvest through time in North America and Australia, placing these data in the context of sea level histories and historical catch records.

Milieu Simulation for BSN Students in a Psychiatric Course.

Students entering the inpatient psychiatric clinical rotation are faced with a new practice environment that may cause varying levels of anticipatory anxiety. A simulation was developed to provide the opportunity to rotate through four different patient types and experience an introduction to the inpatient psychiatric milieu. This simulation is a novel method to prepare students for inpatient psychiatric clinical experiences and is easily adaptable to fit the needs of a variety of programs.

Autologous attenuated T-cell vaccine (Tovaxin) dose escalation in multiple sclerosis relapsing-remitting and secondary progressive patients nonresponsive to approved immunomodulatory therapies.

An open-label dose escalation study of T-cell vaccination in multiple sclerosis patients was conducted using attenuated myelin reactive T-cells (MRTC) selected with six myelin peptides, two each from MBP, PLP and MOG. The dose range of subcutaneous injections given at weeks 0, 4, 12 and 20 was 6-9E6, 30-45E6 and 60-90E6 irradiated MRTC. Assessments were over 52 weeks for MRTC levels, EDSS, MSIS-29, brain MRI and relapses.

Bioreactor expansion of human bone marrow: comparison of unprocessed, density-separated, and CD34-enriched cells.

Scale-up of human hematopoietic cultures was previously described in continuously perfused systems with bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNC), yielding expansion of both progenitors and long-term culture-initiating cells (LTC-IC). We report here on the use of these systems for expansion of unprocessed whole BM cells (WBMC) and CD34-enriched cells. Density separation recovered 84% of CFU-GM and 65% of LTC-IC from WBMC.
