Gestational iron deficiency (gID) is highly prevalent and associated with an increased risk of intellectual and developmental disabilities in affected individuals that are often defined by a disrupted balance of excitation and inhibition (E/I) in the brain. Using a nutritional mouse model of gID, we previously demonstrated a shift in the E/I balance towards increased inhibition in the brains of gID offspring that was refractory to postnatal iron supplementation. We thus tested whether gID affects embryonic progenitor cells that are fated towards inhibitory interneurons.

Sn(ii)-based perovskite oxides, being the subject of longstanding theoretical interest for the past two decades, have been synthesized for the first time in the form of nano eggshell particle morphologies. All past reported synthetic attempts have been unsuccessful owing to their metastable nature, , by their thermodynamic instability towards decomposition to their constituent oxides. A new approach was discovered that finally provides an effective solution to surmounting this intractable synthetic barrier and which can be the key to unlocking the door to many other predicted metastable oxides.

Ancestral sequence reconstruction is a technique that is gaining widespread use in molecular evolution studies and protein engineering. Accurate reconstruction requires the ability to handle appropriately large numbers of sequences, as well as insertion and deletion (indel) events, but available approaches exhibit limitations. To address these limitations, we developed Graphical Representation of Ancestral Sequence Predictions (GRASP), which efficiently implements maximum likelihood methods to enable the inference of ancestors of families with more than 10,000 members.

The social cost of carbon dioxide (SC-CO) measures the monetized value of the damages to society caused by an incremental metric tonne of CO emissions and is a key metric informing climate policy. Used by governments and other decision-makers in benefit-cost analysis for over a decade, SC-CO estimates draw on climate science, economics, demography and other disciplines. Roentgen stereophotogrammetric analysis (RSA) is the "gold standard" technique for measuring sub-millimetric relative motion between implant and bone to quantify post-operative implant migration over time. The vast majority of RSA studies addressing implant motion in knee replacements, however, have been conducted using expensive biplanar radiography systems and commercial software that are not readily available at many institutions. OrganiCam is a laser-induced luminescence imager and spectrometer designed for standoff organic and biosignature detection on planetary bodies. OrganiCam uses a diffused laser beam (12° cone) to cover a large area at several meters distance and records luminescence on half of its intensified detector. Chromatin immunoprecipitation followed by sequencing (ChIP-seq) is the primary protocol for detecting genome-wide DNA-protein interactions, and therefore a key tool for understanding transcriptional regulation. A number of factors, including low specificity of antibody and cellular heterogeneity of sample, may cause "peak" callers to output noise and experimental artefacts. Statistically combining multiple experimental replicates from the same condition could significantly enhance our ability to distinguish actual transcription factor binding events, even when peak caller accuracy and consistency of detection are compromised.

The SuperCam instrument suite provides the Mars 2020 rover, Perseverance, with a number of versatile remote-sensing techniques that can be used at long distance as well as within the robotic-arm workspace. These include laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), remote time-resolved Raman and luminescence spectroscopies, and visible and infrared (VISIR; separately referred to as VIS and IR) reflectance spectroscopy. Purpose: We designed an Artificial X-ray Imaging System (AXIS) that generates simulated fluoroscopic X-ray images on the fly and assessed its utility in improving C-arm positioning performance by C-arm users with little or no C-arm experience.

Methods: The AXIS system was comprised of an optical tracking system to monitor C-arm movement, a manikin, a reference CT volume registered to the manikin, and a Digitally Reconstructed Radiograph algorithm to generate live simulated fluoroscopic images.
