Lifestyle management of obesity includes nutritional therapy, physical activity, and several intermittent fasting therapies. Effective nutrition therapies include optimized low-fat diets, high-quality ketogenic diets, and energy-restricted diets. Adherence to dietary change remains the most substantial barrier to success; therefore, patients engaging in lifestyle changes require intensive support and resources.

Purpose: Rising obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rates can be mitigated by various strategies, with a 10% total body weight loss (TBWL) threshold often required for T2DM remission. T2DM remission rates after bariatric surgery like Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) are well established; endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) is a less invasive option that averages 15% TBWL and allows for T2DM remission. This study explores the DiaRem (Diabetes Remission post-RYGB) score's ability to predict T2DM remission 1-year post-ESG.

How animal body plans evolved and diversified is a major question in evolutionary developmental biology. To address this question, it is important to characterize the exact molecular mechanisms that establish the major embryonic axes that give rise to the adult animal body plan. The anterior-posterior (AP) axis is the first axis to be established in most animal embryos, and in echinoderm sea urchin embryos its formation is governed by an integrated network of three different Wnt signaling pathways: Wnt/β-catenin, Wnt/JNK, and Wnt/PKC pathways.

Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) is a common cause of chronic liver disease globally, with prevalence rapidly increasing in parallel with rising rates of obesity and metabolic syndrome. MASLD is defined by the presence of excess fat in the liver, which may induce inflammatory changes and subsequent fibrosis in high-risk patients. Though MASLD occurs frequently, there is still no approved pharmacological treatment, and the mainstay of therapy remains lifestyle modification via dietary changes, enhancement of physical activity, and management of metabolic comorbidities.

Brachial plexus block provides effective anesthesia and analgesia for upper extremity surgery but requires injection of large anesthetic volumes near major vascular structures. Moreover, the extensive motor and sensory loss produced by plexus block often exceeds the neural distribution needed for corresponding surgical procedures.High-resolution ultrasound facilitates selective nerve blocks at nearly every level of the upper extremity.

Background And Aims: Despite NAFLD being the most prevalent liver disease globally, currently there are no FDA-approved treatments, and weight loss through caloric restriction and enhanced physical activity is the recommended treatment strategy. Intermittent fasting (IF) has been proposed as an alternative strategy with additional cardiometabolic benefits. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we evaluated the anthropometric, biochemical, and hepatic impacts of IF in patients with NAFLD.

Background/objective: Patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS) are likely to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which can progress to advanced fibrosis. Early recognition of those at highest risk may ameliorate outcomes. Noninvasive liver fibrosis assessment through validated scoring systems such as the fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index is helpful to identify these high-risk patients, with the process ideally beginning in the primary care setting.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide, affecting up to one-third of the global population. The disease is defined by excess fat deposition in the liver and has a strong correlation with metabolic syndrome, which, in turn, is also a risk factor for disease progression, including the development of steatohepatitis, advanced fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Although a number of medications are being explored for disease mitigation, nothing is currently approved, and the mainstay of therapy remains dietary and lifestyle intervention that promotes weight loss as well as management of comorbid conditions.

Background: Malnutrition is underrecognized and underdiagnosed, despite high prevalence rates and associated poor clinical outcomes. The involvement of clinical nutrition experts, especially physicians, in the care of high-risk patients with malnutrition remains low despite evidence demonstrating lower complication rates with nutrition support team (NST) management. To facilitate solutions, a survey was designed to elucidate the nature of NSTs and physician involvement and identify needs for novel nutrition support care models.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and hyperlipidemia. There is strong clinical evidence that reduction in at least 5-7% total body weight is associated with improvement in hepatic steatosis and regression of fibrosis, with weight loss representing the primary approach to treatment. This guide reviews recent data on dietary approaches studied in NAFLD management.
