Background: The role of attentional focus is a well-explored topic in exercise sciences. Studies generally indicate that external focus (EF) enhances motor performance and learning compared with internal focus (IF). However, most studies only included one or two experimental days which limits participants' exposure to the focus conditions.

Person, People, Planet: Eco-Systematic Analysis of Older Adults' Experiences of Engagement with Nature and Discourse About Nature.

This study combined ecological, environmental, nature-based, and epistemic interpretations of older adulthood to gain a previously unresearched look at how older adults feel that their relations with nature are treated by others. Sixty older adults were interviewed in-depth, and data was analyzed using the Eco-Appreciation framework and Thematic Content Analysis. The results indicate the concurrence of processes of withdrawal of older adults from spaces of nature and discourse about nature.

Children with idiopathic short stature have significantly different gut microbiota than their normal height siblings: a case-control study.

Objectives: To investigate the role of gut microbiota (GM) in pathogenesis of idiopathic short stature (ISS) by comparing GM of ISS children to their normal-height siblings.

Methods: This case-control study, conducted at the Schneider Children's Medical Center's Institute for Endocrinology and Diabetes between 4/2018-11/2020, involved 30 pairs of healthy pre-pubertal siblings aged 3-10 years, each comprising one sibling with ISS and one with normal height. Outcome measures from fecal analysis of both siblings included GM composition analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing, fecal metabolomics, and monitoring the growth of germ-free (GF) mice after fecal transplantation.

Leveraging dominant-negative histone H3 K-to-M mutations to study chromatin during differentiation and development.

Histone modifications are associated with regulation of gene expression that controls a vast array of biological processes. Often, these associations are drawn by correlating the genomic location of a particular histone modification with gene expression or phenotype; however, establishing a causal relationship between histone marks and biological processes remains challenging. Consequently, there is a strong need for experimental approaches to directly manipulate histone modifications.

The Nature of Social Work: An Ecocentered Analysis of Key Social Work Statements.

This article addresses references to people's natural environments in some of the central declarative statements that shape social work worldwide. Four types of documents were analyzed, including statements associated with the Global Definition of Social Work, the Global Standards for Social Work Education and Training, the Global Social Work Statement of Ethical Principles, and the Grand Challenges for Social Work initiative. The analysis was driven by a critical-interpretive approach, seeking explicit and possibly implied references to nature and the environment across documents, with special attention to themes concerning the relationship between micro and macro perspectives, disciplinarity and inter- or transdisciplinarity, and relations between humankind and nature.

Molecular diagnosis of α-thalassemia in a multiethnic population.

Objective: α-Thalassemia, one of the most common genetic diseases, is caused by deletions or point mutations affecting one to four α-globin genes. Molecular diagnosis is important to prevent the most severe forms of the disease. However, the diagnosis of α-thalassemia is complex due to a high variability of the genetic defects involved, with over 250 described mutations.

Superior vena cava syndrome - changing etiology in the third millennium.

Superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS), is diagnosed following different degrees of central venous system obstruction, which traditionally was caused by infections, tumors or fibrosing mediastinitis. Recently the role of SVC thrombosis secondary to indwelling central venous devices or pacemaker leads as well as different hypercoagulable states have drawn much attention. In the current review we present a 58-year-old female patient who underwent recurrent pacemaker replacements due to recurrent infections.

Chiasmal cavernoma: a rare cause of acute visual loss improved by prompt surgery.

We report a 16-year-old healthy boy who presented with sudden loss of vision in both eyes, accompanied by a mild headache. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a chiasmal apoplexy. An urgent craniotomy revealed a cavernous malformation of the chiasm, which was evacuated.

Environmental household exposures to asbestos and occurrence of pleural mesothelioma.

We reviewed the certificates of 39,650 deaths which occurred in the period 1975-1988 in Leghorn and of 45,900 in La Spezia (Italy) in the period 1958-1988. In total 262 cases have been recorded as pleural mesothelioma. The main occupational exposures occurred in the shipbuilding industry.
