CT-P13 is a biosimilar version of infliximab, a monoclonal antibody. In individuals with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), CT-P13 has been shown to be effective and to have a well-tolerated safety profile. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term drug persistence, safety, and efficacy of infliximab biosimilar CT-P13 in patients with AS undergoing first-line (1st-line) and later (≥2nd-line) treatment in clinical practice.

Background: Atherosclerosis is increased in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and early diagnosis of vascular disease leads to better outcome. Our aim was to evaluate whether aortic elasticity decreases in the subclinical stage of atherosclerosis in RA patients without any cardiovascular disease and to determine disease-related risk factors.

Methods: One hundred fourteen patients with RA, 50 patients with spondyloarthritis, and 50 healthy control were included in this study.

Background/purpose: The objective of this study was to assess the root apical closure ages of first permanent molars retrospectively among a group of western Turkish children aged between 5 and 15 years using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Materials And Methods: CBCT images of 202 patients were examined. The patients were divided into 7 groups according to age: ≤8 years, 8-8.

Article Synopsis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, prompting a study to evaluate traditional cardiovascular risk factors in SLE patients worldwide between 2015 and 2020.
  • The study included 3,401 SLE patients from 24 countries, predominantly women, revealing high rates of hypertension (35.6%), obesity (23.7%), and hyperlipidaemia (19.8%), with poor control of these risk factors across the board.
  • Notably, patients with antiphospholipid syndrome had higher prevalence of cardiovascular risks but showed better control of blood pressure and lipid levels compared to those without, highlighting international discrepancies in risk factor management.

Background: Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare, mostly complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathy. The majority of patients are infants. In contrast to infantile-onset aHUS, the clinical and genetic characteristics of adolescence-onset aHUS have not been sufficiently addressed to date.

Article Synopsis
  • A study examined cancer rates in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) by comparing them to cancer risks in the Turkish population and identifying independent risk factors.
  • Of the 461 AAV patients tracked, 19 developed cancer after an average follow-up of about 3.4 years, with higher cancer risks noted in older males and those with anti-PR3-ANCA positivity.
  • The overall cancer risk for AAV patients was 2.1 times higher than that of the general population, highlighting the need for targeted cancer screening, especially for lung and head-neck cancers in older male patients.

Background: This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate salivary concentrations of macrophage activation-related chemokines and mitogen-activated kinase kinase (MAPKK)-degrading proteolytic activity in children and adolescents with and without type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).

Methods: A total of 122 children and adolescents (65 T1DM patients, 50.8% female, mean age:10.

Objective: To investigate the distribution of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) initiating a tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi), to assess the proportion reaching PRO "remission" across registries and treatment series, and to compare patients registered to fulfill the modified New York (mNY) criteria for ankylosing spondylitis (AS) vs patients with nonradiographic axSpA (nr-axSpA).

Methods: Fifteen European registries contributed PRO scores for pain, fatigue, patient global assessment (PtGA), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath AS Functional Index (BASFI), and Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) from 19,498 patients with axSpA. Changes in PROs and PRO remission rates (definitions: ≤ 20 mm for pain, fatigue, PtGA, BASDAI, and BASFI; ≤ 0.

Background: Kidney involvement related to infective endocarditis (IE) may present with different clinical findings. The most common histopathological finding of renal involvement is a combination of proliferative and exudative glomerulonephritis. However, severe acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by crescentic glomerulonephritis (CGN) is extremely rare in children with IE.

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a large-vessel vasculitis that predominantly affects the aorta and although it usually causes stenosis, aneurysms have been reported in ∼10-25% of the patients. Here, we present a male TA patient with chronic disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) as a rare complication of endovascular grafted aortic aneurysm (AA). Chronic DIC usually presents as mild or even hidden clinical symptoms, and early diagnosis of this condition can only be possible with laboratory tests.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate quality of life (QoL), disease activity, compliance to treatment, patient and physician preferences for route of administration (RoA), status of health and pain in RA patients starting advanced treatments or needing a switch, and the factors associated with patient preferences.

Methods: A multicentre, prospective, observational and 1-year follow-up study was conducted, between 2015 and 2020, in adult RA patients using advanced treatments for the first time or needing a switch in their current treatments. All the data collected were entered into electronic case report forms.

Objectives: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by insulin deficiency, is related to periodontal diseases in children and adolescents. Our aim was to profile salivary human beta-defensin (hBD)-2 and hBD-3 concentrations in relation to periodontal and T1DM status in children and adolescent populations.

Material And Methods: Unstimulated saliva samples were collected from 66 participants including periodontally healthy T1DM patients (T1DM + C; n = 18), T1DM patients with gingivitis (T1DM + G; n = 20), systemically and periodontally healthy individuals (SH + C: n = 15), and systemically healthy gingivitis patients (SH + G; n = 13).
