Advances in small RNAs (sRNAs)-related studies have posed a challenge for NGS-related bioinformatics, especially regarding the correct mapping of sRNAs. Depending on the algorithms and scoring matrices on which they are based, aligners are influenced by the characteristics of the dataset and the reference genome. These influences have been studied mainly in eukaryotes and to some extent in prokaryotes.

Bone marrow fibrosis in myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), MPN/MDS overlap syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is associated with poor prognosis and early treatment failure. Myelofibrosis (MF) is accompanied by reprogramming of multipotent bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) into osteoid and fiber-producing stromal cells. We demonstrate NRP2 and osteolineage marker NCAM1 (neural cell adhesion molecule 1) expression within the endosteal niche in normal bone marrow and aberrantly in MPN, MDS MPN/MDS overlap syndromes and AML ( = 99), as assessed by immunohistochemistry.

DSS1 is a small protein, highly conserved across different species. As a member of the intrinsically disordered protein family, DSS1 interacts with different protein partners, thus forming complexes involved in diverse biological mechanisms: DNA repair, regulation of protein homeostasis, mRNA export, etc. Additionally, DSS1 has a novel intriguing role in the post-translational protein modification named DSSylation.

The beneficial effects of silicon (Si) have been shown on plants using reduction-based strategy for iron (Fe) acquisition. Here we investigated the influence of Si on Fe deficiency stress alleviation in barley (), a crop plant which uses the chelation-based strategy for Fe acquisition. Analyses of chlorophyll content, ROS accumulation, antioxidative status, concentrations of Fe and other micronutrients, along with the expression of Strategy II genes were studied in response to Si supply.

Summary: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) function as master regulators of gene expression. Recent studies demonstrate that miRNA isoforms (isomiRs) play a unique role in cancer development. Here, we present QuagmiR, the first cloud-based tool to analyze isomiRs from next generation sequencing data.

This paper describes a case of aelurostrongylosis in a four-month old female domestic cat (Felis catus) from South Banat, Serbia. The kitten that had died suddenly without signs of illness was autopsied in the Veterinary Specialised Institute "Pančevo". The macroscopic finding was typical of granulomatous pneumonia and subsequently, histopathology revealed verminous pneumonia.

Background: Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a disorder characterized by amyloid deposition in the wall of cerebral blood vessels. The deposits of amyloid occur frequently in the blood vessels of the frontal, parietal and occipital cortex.

Objective: To examine the characteristics of CAA classified according to the Vonsattel scale in elderly dogs histologically and immunohistochemically as well as the semi-quantitative evaluation of the amyloid deposits in the different segments of the brain.

The spontaneous formation of droplets via dewetting of a thin fluid film from a solid substrate allows materials nanostructuring. Often, it is crucial to be able to control the evolution, and to produce patterns characterized by regularly spaced droplets. While thermal fluctuations are expected to play a role in the dewetting process, their relevance has remained poorly understood, particularly during the nonlinear stages of evolution that involve droplet formation.

We study the dynamics of three-dimensional Fisher fronts in the presence of density fluctuations. To this end we simulate the Fisher equation subject to stochastic internal noise, and study how the front moves and roughens as a function of the number of particles in the system, N. Our results suggest that the macroscopic behavior of the system is driven by the microscopic dynamics at its leading edge where number fluctuations are dominated by rare events.

Introduction: Hetero-aggressive behaviour in patients with mental disorders is frequent and requires special skills of doctors and other medical staff in order to urgently protect the patient and indicate hospitalization.

Objective: The objective of this paper was to examine the frequency of the most common diagnostic categories in psychiatric patients with hetero-aggressive behaviour. The secondary objective was to examine aspects of realized hospitalization (voluntary, involuntary) and socio-demographic characteristics of these patients.

The corrosion property of carbon steel was evaluated using an autoclave under CO(2)-saturated water phase and water-saturated CO(2) phase with impurities (O(2) and SO(2)) at 80 bar CO(2) and 50 °C to simulate the condition of CO(2) transmission pipeline in the carbon capture and storage (CCS) applications. The results showed that the corrosion rate of carbon steel in CO(2)-saturated water was very high and it increased with adding O(2) in the system due to the inhibition effect of O(2) on the formation of protective FeCO(3). It is noteworthy that corrosion took place in the water-saturated CO(2) phase under supercritical condition when no free water is present.
