Study Aims: Switzerland's Labour Law and its Ordonnance on Maternity Protection aim to protect the health of pregnant employees and their unborn children while enabling them to continue to pursue their professional activities. Some companies encounter difficulties implementing the law's provisions. The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, part of the Center for Primary Care and Public Health (Unisanté), has provided specialist occupational medicine consultations for pregnant employees since 2015.

External accelerated partial breast irradiation for ductal carcinoma in situ: long-term follow-up from a phase 3 randomized trial.

Introduction: For a long time, accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) effectiveness for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) has been debated, due to conflicting published results. Recent encouraging data from phase 3 trials reopened new perspectives for this radiation approach. The aim of the present study was to analyze the long-term efficacy and safety results of the series of patients with DCIS enrolled in the APBI arm of the APBI-IMRT-Florence phase 3 trial (NCT02104895).

There is an increasing emphasis on using cost-effectiveness analysis to achieve a higher value for the money invested in the healthcare, avoiding waste and unnecessary costs. The process for achieving a better use of available resources should include five steps: collecting data, developing indicators, evaluating evidence, making informed decisions, and considering consequences. Clinical laboratories represent a paradigmatic model to improve data collection in order to develop further steps of the improvement process.

COUP-TFII in pancreatic adenocarcinoma: clinical implication for patient survival and tumor progression.

Despite the accumulating knowledge of alterations in pancreatic cancer molecular pathways, no substantial improvements in the clinical prognosis have been made and this malignancy continues to be a leading cause of cancer death in the Western World. The orphan nuclear receptor COUP-TFII is a regulator of a wide range of biological processes and it may exert a pro-oncogenic role in cancer cells; interestingly, indirect evidences suggest that the receptor could be involved in pancreatic cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of COUP-TFII in human pancreatic tumors and to unveil its role in the regulation of pancreatic tumor growth.

The aim of this study was to examine whether a difference exists in indications and outcomes between laparoscopic appendectomies performed by residents and those performed by experienced surgeons.

Methods: Between 1999 and 2007, 218 laparoscopic appendectomies were performed and recorded.
