Rotavirus was related to causing intussusception when the first generation rotavirus vaccine was introduced. However, the association between natural rotavirus infection and intussusception remains an area of concern and controversy. A few studies have found that rotavirus infection can cause intussusception.

Rotavirus was detected in 39.7% of the 322 stool samples and affected mainly children in the age group of 6-23 months.
