Comparison of Recovery Rate of Otomycosis using One-Percent Gentian Violet and One-Percent Clotrimazole Topical Treatment.

Background: Otomycosis is a fungal infection of external auditory canal with worldwide prevalence of 9% to 30%. Treatment includes elimination of predisposing factor, thorough canal cleaning and topical or systemic antifungal agents. Clotrimazole is a specific topical antifungal agent with effectiveness varying from 95% to 100%.

Auditory Spatial Perception as a Function of Recreational Noise Exposure in Gen-Z Adults with Normal Hearing.

The study aimed to evaluate auditory spatial perception in individuals with and without recreational noise exposure using Virtual Acoustic Space Identification. A standard group comparison design using purposive sampling was conducted on 60 normal-hearing participants aged 18-30. They were divided into experimental and control groups based on their scores on the recreational hearing habits questionnaire (CHAR).

Acute Pancreatitis Caused by Pegylated (PEG)-Asparaginase Associated With Severe Hypertriglyceridemia.

Pegylated (PEG)-asparaginase is used during the induction and intensification phases of treatment for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). It works by depleting the external sources of asparagine, causing the death of lymphoblasts. It has several adverse effects, including pancreatitis and hypertriglyceridemia; however, the simultaneous occurrence of both is uncommon.

Severe and rapidly changing hypophosphatemia in cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome: a case report.

The increasing prevalence of cannabis worldwide requires awareness of a potential, less recognized, paradoxical entity, the cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS). This includes cyclic episodes of nausea, vomiting, and compulsive hot water bathing for alleviation in individuals with chronic cannabis use. An 18-year-old male with daily and prolonged cannabis use has excessive nausea and vomiting, is diagnosed with CHS, and is further complicated by severe and rapidly fluctuating hypophosphatemia.

Factors influencing the time to diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer among women in low- and middle-income countries: A systematic review.

Purpose: Shorter time from symptoms recognition to diagnosis and timely treatment would be expected to improve the survival of patients with breast cancer (BC). This review identifies and summarizes evidence on time to diagnosis and treatment, and associated factors to inform an improved BC care pathways in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).

Methods: A systematic search was conducted in electronic databases including Medline, Embase, PsycINFO and Global Health, covering publications between January 1, 2010, and November 6, 2023.

The effect of regional transmural agreements on the information transfer of frail older patients.

Introduction: Frail older patients are at risk for many complications when admitted to the hospital. Multidisciplinary regional transmural agreements (RTA) in which guidelines were set concerning the information transfer of frail older patients might improve outcomes. We aim to investigate the effect of implementation of the RTA on the completeness of the information transfer of frail older patients when admitted to and discharged from the hospital.

Post-tonsillectomy Hemorrhage in Patients Receiving Ketorolac Analgesic.

Background Ketorolac, the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is thought to have less sedation as well as postoperative nausea and vomiting in comparison to opioids, but with higher risk of post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage as reported in some of the literatures. There is no consensus till date in the use of ketorolac in the management of pain following tonsil and adenoid related surgeries. Objective To find out the incidence of hemorrhage following tonsil and adenoid related surgeries in patients receiving ketorolac in postoperative period.

Stab injuries to the abdomen have become a common occurrence, though retained objects are rare. A 22-year-old male presented with a left lower abdominal discomfort the next day after having a stab in the right hypochondrium. He was hemodynamically stable, with no signs of peritonitis.

Extremely Elevated Prostate-Specific Antigen in Acute Prostatitis: A Case Report.

Elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels are mostly suggestive of prostate cancer, but they are elevated in non-cancerous prostatic conditions as well. However, extreme levels of PSA as reported here have not been observed in cases other than prostatic cancer so far. Our patient had a significantly elevated PSA of 1,398 ng/mL in acute prostatitis.

This review aims to overview methodological aspects and modifying factors in axial loading on bone outcomes.

Advances in haemostatic sponges: Characteristics and the underlying mechanisms for rapid haemostasis.

In traumatized patients, the primary cause of mortality is uncontrollable continuous bleeding and unexpected intraoperative bleeding which is likely to increase the risk of complications and surgical failure. High expansion sponges are effective clinical practice for the treatment of wound bleeding (irregular/deep/narrow) that are caused by capillaries, veins and even arterioles as they possess a high liquid absorption ratio so can absorb blood platelets easily in comparison with traditional haemostasis treatments, which involve compression, ligation, or electrical coagulation etc. When in contact with blood, haemostatic sponges can cause platelet adhesion, aggregation, and thrombosis, preventing blood from flowing out from wounds, triggering the release of coagulation factors, causing the blood to form a stable polymerized fibre protein, forming blood clots, and achieving the goal of wound bleeding control.

Women's autonomy on sexual and reproductive health issues is critical to women's health and well-being. Women have the right to decide on their fertility and sexuality, be free from coercion and violence, and achieve well-being. This study has identified women's autonomy regarding decision and exercise of their sexual reproductive health and rights and its association with determining factors in Nepal.

Mechanical loading modulates phosphate related genes in rat bone.

Mechanical loading determines bone mass and bone structure, which involves many biochemical signal molecules. Of these molecules, Mepe and Fgf23 are involved in bone mineralization and phosphate homeostasis. Thus, we aimed to explore whether mechanical loading of bone affects factors of phosphate homeostasis.

Safety and efficacy of prophylactic anticoagulation versus therapeutic anticoagulation in hospital-admitted COVID-19 patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Background: COVID-19 disease-related coagulopathy and thromboembolic complication, an important aspect of the disease pathophysiology, are frequent and associated with poor outcomes, particularly significant in hospitalized patients. Undoubtedly, anticoagulation forms a cornerstone for the management of hospitalized COVID-19 patients, but the appropriate dosing has been inconclusive and a subject of research. We aim to review existing literature and compare safety and efficacy outcomes of prophylactic and therapeutic dose anticoagulation in such patients.

In this study, we aimed to explore the possibility of using APIM-peptides targeting the bacterial β-clamp for treatment of skin infections. We selected a lead peptide, named betatide, from five APIM-peptide candidates based on their antibacterial and antimutagenic activities in both G and G bacteria.

We present an unusual case that staphylococcal brain abscess can present in an immunocompetent with endogenous endophthalmitis secondary to a septic foci and early prevention of dissemination with appropriate management to prevent its complications.

In this study we explore the antibacterial effects of these peptides on , a bacterial species commonly found in prosthetic joint infections (PJI).

Long-term results of type I tympanoplasty with perichondrium reinforced cartilage palisade vs temporalis fascia for large perforations: A retrospective study.

Objective: To compare the rate of graft uptake and postoperative hearing outcomes of Type I tympanoplasty with perichondrium reinforced cartilage palisade to temporalis fascia for large tympanic membrane (TM) perforations over 5 years follow-up period.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective comparative study involving patients with chronic otitis media with large TM perforations. The patients underwent type I tympanoplasty using either perichondrium reinforced cartilage palisade (CP group) or temporalis fascia (TF group) as the graft via a transmeatal approach and under local anesthesia.

An extremely rare case of giant oncocytic adenolipoma of the parotid gland.

Oncocytic adenolipoma is a rare tumor to occur in the salivary gland, which can present as a giant neck mass. Until now, <20 such cases are reported. We report this rare case for surgeons to consider it as one of the differential diagnoses.
