Objective: An increasing number of studies have shown that a robotic guidance system (RGS) can provide accurate cervical pedicle screw (CPS) placement. The accuracy of CPS placement with an RGS has mostly been evaluated according to the magnitude of pedicular cortical violation. However, an RGS assists in pedicle screw (PS) placement by directly indicating the preplanned trajectory in the operative field.

Background: Patients with hallux valgus (HV) may develop metatarsalgia, which is partly attributed to second metatarsal relative length (RL2M). However, no study has analyzed RL2Ms measured by various methods as predictors for metatarsalgia in HV patients. This study aimed to investigate the predictors for metatarsalgia in HV patients and calculate the cutoff values for metatarsalgia in preoperative planning for lesser metatarsal shortening osteotomy.

Article Synopsis
  • Delirium is a problem that often affects older people in hospitals, and it might increase the chances of them getting dementia later on.
  • A study looked at over 261,000 patients in Osaka to see how delirium during hospital stays is related to the development of dementia.
  • The results showed that people who experienced delirium had dementia show up much faster compared to those who didn't, highlighting the need to prevent delirium and watch for cognitive decline in these patients.

Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes after superior capsule reconstruction (SCR) for irreparable rotator cuff tears (RCTs) in patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM).

Methods: Patients who underwent SCR using fascia lata autograft for irreparable RCTs between 2012 and 2020 with a minimum 2-year follow-up were divided into non-DM and DM groups. Propensity score matching was used to select controls matched for patients' characteristics.

Cases involving both the induced membrane technique and intramedullary beaming are generally rare. Here, we report such a case in an 83-year-old man who suffered from left midfoot pain. Pyogenic arthritis was suspected based on clinical findings, and curettage was performed, revealing an extensive bone defect.

Background Context: During the radiographic examination, the cranium orientation varies not only individually but also within the same subject, in different imaging sessions. Knowing how changes in the orientation of the cranium influences cervical sagittal alignment during the radiographic examination of the cervical spine can aid clinicians in the accurate evaluation for cervical sagittal alignment in clinical practice.

Purpose: To radiographically examine the influence of cranium orientation on cervical sagittal alignment during radiographic examination in an asymptomatic cohort.

Purpose: Establishing zonal tendon-to-bone attachment could accelerate the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) rehabilitation schedule and facilitate an earlier return to sports. KI24RGDS is a self-assembling peptide hydrogel scaffold (SAPS) with the RGDS amino acid sequence. This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic potential of KI24RGDS in facilitating zonal tendon-to-bone attachment after ACLR.

Aim: This retrospective cohort study aimed to compare the risk of serious infections in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated with tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitors (TNFαi) and interleukin-6 inhibitors (IL-6i), with no prior use of biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs).

Methods: We employed the nationwide insurance claims database encompassing the years 2005 to 2018 in Japan. The inclusion criteria specified patients who were prescribed any type of bDMARDs, including TNFαi and IL-6i.

Article Synopsis
  • * It highlights the importance of measuring dynamic parameters from baseline radiographs, particularly the flexion C2-C7 angle (fC2-C7), to predict the likelihood of kyphosis in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM).
  • * Findings indicate that patients with an fC2-C7 angle of ≤ -25° and a gap range of motion (gROM) of ≥ 30° are at a heightened risk for significant kyphotic deformity post-CLP, providing valuable insights for clinical decision

We investigated predictors of olaparib discontinuation owing to adverse effects. Patients with ovarian, peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancers treated with olaparib at Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hospital between April 2018 and September 2022 were included in this study. The exclusion criteria were as follows: discontinuation of treatment due to disease progression, use of anaemia medications, and use of cytochrome P450 (CYP3A4) inhibitors.

Appropriate suture tension is a key factor in successful meniscal repair. This study aimed to clarify the appropriate value of meniscal stabilization with suture repair based on a probing procedure for healthy porcine menisci and a novel meniscal scaffold. After evaluating the reliability of the probing sensor, meniscal vertical tear and partial meniscectomy models were developed, in which suture repair and meniscal scaffold implantation were performed at suture intervals ranging between 20 and 2.

Study Design: A retrospective study.

Objective: To compare the accuracy of cervical pedicle screw (CPS) placement using a robotic guidance system (RGS) with that of using an image guidance system (IGS; navigation system) through propensity score matching.

Background: The RGS may provide accurate CPS placement, which may outperform IGS.

Background: This study aimed to assess the association between the disease process of hip osteoarthritis and total hip arthroplasty (THA) outcomes; this is a critical issue, as rapid progression has been postulated to be responsible for patient dissatisfaction after THA.

Methods: This retrospective case-control study included 255 patients who underwent THA and completed a mean follow-up duration of 42.1 months (range, 24.

Purpose: The functional interaction between the hip and spine in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) is clinically significant, as it impacts post-operative outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to identify factors associated with the progression of sagittal spinal deformity and assess the association with patient-reported outcomes.

Methods: This retrospective case-control study included 200 patients who underwent primary THA and completed a mean follow-up duration of 42.

Background: Patients with moderate to severe hallux valgus (HV) sometimes exhibit second metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint dislocation. Second MTP joint instability due to plantar plate (PP) injury has been suggested as one of the causes. However, there have been no reports that quantitatively evaluate this instability.

Aims: Amikacin requires therapeutic drug monitoring for optimum efficacy; however, the optimal model-informed precision dosing strategy for the area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of amikacin is uncertain. This simulation study aimed to determine the efficient blood sampling points using the Bayesian forecasting approach for early achievement of the target AUC range for amikacin in critically ill patients.

Methods: We generated a virtual population of 3000 individuals using 2 validated population pharmacokinetic models identified using a systematic literature search.

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital malformations of the bronchial tree, detected as a cystic and/or mass lesion in the thoracic cavity. Although it occurs in distant locations, such as skin and retroperitoneum, to the best of our knowledge, little is known about the components and phenotypes of the epithelium that line a bronchogenic cyst in rare sites. The present study reviewed 34 bronchogenic cysts that were surgically resected at Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hospital (Osaka, Japan) from January 1998 to December 2020.

Purpose: Although the effects of lateral hinge fractures (LHF) on bone union and clinical outcomes after opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) have been established, the effects of LHF after opening-wedge distal tibial tubercle osteotomy (OWDTO) are unclear. We hypothesised that LHF after OWDTO would be associated with delayed bone union and result in poorer clinical outcomes than expected for LHF after OWHTO.

Methods: This study enrolled 100 patients, with 50 OWDTO patients (18 men; mean age, 63.

The potential for marine litter being trapped in biodiverse marine habitats such as mangrove forests, seagrass meadows and coral reefs is poorly understood. This study presents the first comprehensive investigation on the status of macro-litter across four marine habitats in Singapore during the two monsoonal seasons. Overall, litter density did not vary considerably between the southwest and the northeast monsoon.
