The antidote effect of thiosulphate and hydroxocobalamin in formation of nitroprusside intoxication of rabbits.

Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and hydroxocobalamin (HC) - in molar ratios of 1:4, 1:5, and 1:8, respectively - were infused simultaneously during 4 h into two veins of separate ears of conscious rabbits. Controls received HC only. Sodium thiosulphate (ST) was infused with SNP at molar ratios of 1:4, 1:5, and 1:10.

[High kv films of the lungs with slight dorsal flexion for lesions in the upper lobes (author's transl)].

A high kv technique--145 kv--and dorsal flexion in the a.p. projection has proved advantageous for the demonstration of the lung apices and subclavicular regions.

[Histological reactions caused by various types of suturing threads].

Wounds caused in the dorsal musculature of guinea pigs were sutured with various types of threads and the histological reactions caused by the latter were studied. Light and electron microscopic methods revealed that the best resorption can be achieved with Dexon threads. This synthetic thread is resorbed in 14 to 16 weeks causing only a minimal histological reaction and without cicatrization in its vicinity.

Effect of haemo- and peritoneal dialysis on the cell-mediated immune response in chronic uraemia.

Lymphocytopenia, decreased spontaneous rosette formation, and a decreased T lymphocyte count have been found in patients with non-uraemic glomerulonephritis (71 cases) and in different stages of uraemia (68 cases). In chronic glomerulonephritis and in the early stage of uraemia, cell-mediated hypersensitivity (lymphocyte migration inhibition) to glomerular basement membrane (GBM) characteristic of glomerulonephritis could be demonstrated. Hypersensitivity disappeared in the terminal stage of uraemia indicating endogenous immunosuppression.

Study of the antitumoral activity of S-carbamoyl-L-cysteine derivatives in animal experiments.

The antitumoral activity of three amino acid derivatives, S-carbamoyl-L-cysteine, S-ethyl-carbamoyl-L-cysteine, and S-chloroethyl-carbamoyl-L-cysteine, was studied. The ethyl and chloroethyl derivatives had a pronounced curative effect on certain animal tumors. It is interesting in the case of S-carbamoyl-L-cysteine that N-ethylization of the substance resulted in increased chemotherapeutic effectivity with no simultaneous change of the toxicity.

[Etiology of pancreatitis in 10 years of case material].

The aetiology of the 166 pancreatitis-casts observed in the authors' department between January 1, 1966, and December 31, 1975 is analysed. In 123 (74%) cases the aetiology could be clarified, while in 3 cases even the autopsy failed to throw light on the pathogenesis of the fatal pancreatitis. The distribution of complications and mortality according to aetiology is presented.

The effect of dibromodulcitol (Elobromolr, Mitolactolr, nsc 104 800) on the postoperative recurrences of the Guerin carcinoma of the rat.

In all cases of Guerin carcinoma of the rat the recurrence of the tumor in 7-10 days can be observed following surgical removal. Local treatment with Dibromodulcitol combined with intraperitoneal administration of the same drug results in delayed occurrence of tumor recurrences, the growth of which is slower, and in a significant increase of life span of the animals. In exceptional cases no recurrence appeared.

[Electron microscopic changes of the intestinal mucosa following truncal vagotomy].

Ultrastructural changes on the mucosa of the jejunum and ileum after truncal vagotomy were studied in the dog. Tests performed 2, 3, 7 and 10 days, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 weeks as well as 4, 5, 6, 9 and 12 months after vagotomy showed no significant changes in the epithelial cells. The microvilli, smooth and rough surface endoplasmic reticulum, the free iebosomes and the terminal web area were completely intact.

Care of the patient in autoimmune renal disease. Assessment of clinical and immunological activity.

174 patients suffering from various autoimmune and renal diseases have been followed up for periods of one to four years. Repeated assessment of clinical and immunological activity is indispensable for therapy, prognosis and rehabilitation. Determination of microscopic haematuria by the Addis count proved to be the best indication of clinical activity.

[Damage and regeneration of the skeletal muscles in the presence of foreign bodies].

Studies of experimental muscle regeneration revealed that certain constituents of talc are actively damaging the regeneration of muscle tissue and produce characteristic reaction of the tuberculoid type. Bio-SorbR which contains starch and has been marketed for a similar use affects regeneration only as a foreign body. The elimination of talc from surgical practice and its substitution by some neutral material is recommended.

[Explorative laparotomy].

In the 10 year surgical material of the authors the incidence of explorative laparotomy was 9.3%. In the 850 exposures the findings of 263 patients were negative.
