Knowledge and attitudes about human papillomavirus infection and prevention methods among medical science students in Novi Sad, Serbia: a cross-sectional study.

Background: It is estimated that more than 80% of people are infected with human papilloma virus (HPV) at some point in their lives. Knowledge about HPV infection and methods of its prevention is important for society as a whole. Medical students as future healthcare workers must be thoroughly informed about HPV infection in order to properly participate in the promotion of its prevention.

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in Low- and Middle-Income vs. High-Income Countries: The Role of Ventilator Bundle, Ventilation Practices, and Healthcare Staffing.

Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) rates are higher in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) than in high-income countries (HICs).

Research Question: Could differences in ventilator bundle adherence, ventilation practices, and critical care staffing be driving variations in VAP risk between LMICs and HICs?

Study Design And Methods: This secondary analysis of the multicenter, international CERTAIN study included mechanically ventilated patients at risk for VAP from eleven LMICs and five HICs. We included oral care, head-of-bed elevation, spontaneous breathing assessments, and sedation breaks in the ventilator bundle.

Ablative radiofrequency microplasma for lateral dermatochalasis-indications and treatment recommendations.

To determine in which cases ablative radiofrequency microplasma is preferred for the treatment of lateral dermatochalasis over a surgical approach as well as discussing each method's benefits and limitations. Twenty-one patients underwent 3 interventions of plasma exeresis. Photographic and RCM images were acquired at baseline and 4 weeks after final plasma exeresis.

Introduction The European Respiratory Society/American Thoracic Society (ERS/ATS) Task Force released new technical standards on spirometry interpretation in 2021. Our study compares bronchodilator responsiveness (BDR) in asthma, evaluating the impact of the 2005 and 2021 ERS/ATS criteria and the influence of predictive equations. Methods A retrospective cohort study of adult patients with asthma was referred to spirometry with a BDR test at the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodina, Sremska Kamenica, Serbia.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Acute Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: A Narrative Literature Review.

Both obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and acute lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) are important global health issues. The pathophysiological links between OSA and LRTIs include altered immune responses due to chronic intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation, increased aspiration risk, and a high burden of comorbidities. In this narrative review, we evaluated the current evidence on the association between OSA and the incidence and outcomes of acute LRTIs in adults, specifically community-acquired pneumonia and viral pneumonia caused by influenza and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

Chondrosarcoma of the Sternum: Surgical Challenges, Chest Wall Reconstruction, and Postoperative Management.

Although rare, primary chondrosarcoma is the most frequent malignant tumor of the sternum. It commonly manifests as a painful, expanding mass arising from the costochondrosternal junction. Since it is resistant to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, surgical resection with reconstruction is the preferred treatment.

Late-Onset Chylothorax After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.

Chylothorax, the presence of lymph in the pleural cavity, is a significant post-cardiac surgery complication. Historically linked to left internal mammary artery (LIMA) harvesting, its occurrence in cases without LIMA usage is uncommon. This paper details a case of chylothorax in an 84-year-old female patient who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) without LIMA harvesting.

Carob Extract ( L.): Effects on Dyslipidemia and Obesity in a High-Fat Diet-Fed Rat Model.

Dyslipidemia and obesity are recognized as two of the major global health issues and main risk factors for coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease. In recent years, carob has shown certain antioxidant and anti-dyslipidemic potential. In this study, Wistar rats were fed with a standard and cholesterol-enriched diet and treated orally with carob extract and simvastatin for four weeks.

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Presenting With Pulmonary Hyalinizing Granuloma: A Rare Clinical Entity.

Pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma (PHG) is an unusual benign pulmonary disease with nonspecific symptoms and slow progression, characterized by solitary or multiple fibrosing nodules. A definitive diagnosis of PHG usually requires a wide excisional biopsy. Associations of PHG with lymphoproliferative disorders, such as Castleman's disease and lymphoma, have been described.

A Case Report on Serotonin Syndrome in a Patient With Parkinson's Disease: Diagnostic and Management Challenges.

Patients with Parkinson's disease are often at risk of polypharmacy, which can lead to serious medication side effects and interactions. Serotonin syndrome (SS) can develop in this patient population due to a possible drug-drug interaction between antidepressants and antiparkinson drugs with serotoninergic activity. On the other hand, these patients are also at risk of malignant syndrome (MS) secondary to dopaminergic medication withdrawal.

Intrapleural Fibrinolytic Therapy With Alteplase for the Management of Multiloculated Malignant Pleural Effusion: A Case Series.

Malignant pleural effusion refers to the presence of fluid in the pleural space due to an underlying malignancy. Malignant pleural effusion is sometimes accompanied by the formation of fibrous adhesions resulting in a multiloculated effusion. This diminishes the efficacy of drainage and makes successful pleurodesis impossible, leaving the patients with severe shortness of breath.

Association Between Metabolic Syndrome, Its Components, and Knee Osteoarthritis in Premenopausal and Menopausal Women: A Pilot Study.

Objective: This pilot study aimed to determine the correlation of metabolic syndrome (MetS), its components, and increased LDL (low-density lipoprotein) and total cholesterol levels with osteoarthritis (OA). In addition, our goal was to establish the association between MetS and the degree of handicap measured by the Lequesne index of functionality and severity of knee osteoarthritis.

Materials And Methods: The pilot study included 25 subjects with knee OA and 19 subjects without knee OA.
