We have developed surface functionalised FeO magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) based system that can be used for tumor-targeted multimodal therapies and MR imaging. Biocompatible, non-essential amino acid (glutamic acid) was introduced onto the surface of FeO MNPs to provide functional sites for binding of chemotherapeutic drugs. These glutamic acid-coated FeO MNPs (GAMNPs) exhibit good water-dispersibility, magnetic responsivity and pH dependent charge conversal feature.

The presence of 13 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was measured in a small stretch of river Ganges in Kanpur, using high-performance liquid chromatography equipped with photodiode array detector (HPLC/PDA). Non-carcinogenic risk on human health was calculated in the form of hazardous index. Extrusion cooking of sorghum (Sorghum vulgaris), horse gram (Dolichos biflorus) and defatted soy (Glycine max) flour blends was done to prepare snacks by using a Brabender single-screw laboratory extruder. The combined effect of moisture content, blend ratio of feed, barrel temperature and screw speed of extruder on physical parameters of extrudate was studied. It was observed that 15% moisture content of feed, 80:10:10 (sorghum flour: horse gram flour: defatted soy flour) of blend ratio, 130 °C barrel temperature and 130 rpm of screw speed gave the highest sectional expansion index and longitudinal expansion index of extrudate, while 12% moisture content, 75:15:10 of blend ratio of feed, 135 °C of barrel temperature and 135 rpm of screw speed gave lowest bulk density of extrudate.

This article deals with assessment of the potential health risk posed by carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic substances, namely lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), copper, chromium (CrVI), zinc, nickel and mercury, present in e-waste.
