Background: Postoperative pain following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) arises from incision sites and residual intraperitoneal CO gas. Opioids as a class of pain-relieving drugs are broadly used to control pain after LC; however, these drugs can cause various side effects.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of intraperitoneal injection of bupivacaine with that of intravenous ketorolac in managing postoperative pain in patients who had undergone LC.

More powerful prognostic and diagnostic tools are urgently needed for identifying and treating ovarian cancer (OC), which is the most fatal malignancy in women in developed countries. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are conservative and stable looped molecules that can regulate gene expression by competing with other endogenous microRNA sponges. This discovery provided new insight into novel methods for regulating genes that are involved in many disorders and cancers.

γ-oryzanol (ORY) is the vital bioactive compound, which is a mixture of ferulic acid ester and plant sterols. In the present work, the binding of ORY to human serum albumin (HSA) was investigated at the molecular level using fluorescence spectroscopy and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) as well as molecular modeling studies. Based on the fluorescence data analysis, ORY can form a non-fluorescent complex with HSA and induce static quenching of the emission intensity of HSA.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs), a novelty-defined class of regulatory genes, have revolutionized principles of classical bimolecular. These RNAs regulate the expression of a gene through inhibition of translational initiation or targeting mRNAs for degradation. MiRNAs act in several biological operations, including proliferation, differentiation, and cell death, and their expression is often abnormal in human diseases such as cancer.

Herein, we describe a simple microwave method for the doping of Cu2+ into NiCr-LDH and the preparation of ternary Ni2.25Cu0.75Cr-LDH as a superior electrocatalyst for water oxidation in a neutral solution.

Kidney ischemia reperfusion (IR) contributes to the development of acute kidney injury. The hypoxic conditions in ischemic damage lead to oxidative stress and apoptotic cell death. We investigated the effects of vitamin D3 (Vit D) and erythropoietin (EPO) on microRNA-21(miR-21) expression in renal IR.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are single-stranded non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally via mRNA degradation, or translational repression. They have important roles in normal development and homeostasis maintenance. Many studies have revealed that aberrant expression of miRNAs is associated with development of pathological conditions, including cancers.

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a transcription factor that is activated downstream of a broad range of receptors particularly interleukin-6 (IL-6) family. STAT3 is the key regulator of cell proliferation, survival and apoptosis and is constitutively activated in most human cancers, indicating that it can be an important potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment. STAT3 also has important roles in lymphocyte biology, regulation of immune responses and autoimmunity.

The diaryl ether moiety is not only prevalent in a significant number of natural products and synthetic pharmaceuticals but also widely found in many pesticides, polymers, and ligands. Ullmann-type cross-coupling reactions between phenols and aryl halides are regarded as one of the most important methods for the synthesis of this important and versatile structural motif. In recent years, the use of nano-sized metal catalysts in this coupling reaction has attracted a lot of attention because of these catalysts with their high surface-to-volume ratio, high surface energy, and reactive morphology allows for rapid C-O bond formation under mild and ligand-free conditions.

A great concern exists about the lifetime, cost, low-temperature performance, and safety of Li-ion batteries. Na-ion batteries (NIB) are an alternative to the Li-ion batteries due to the wide availability of sodium, its low cost, and nontoxicity. Here, we examined the Na and Na adsorption on nanosheets of carbon (graphene), AlN, BN, and SiC to explore their potential use as an anode in NIBs.

The electronic sensitivity and adsorption behavior toward cyanogen halides (X-CN; X = F, Cl, and Br) of a BN nanocluster were investigated by means of density functional theory calculations. The X-head of these molecules was predicted to interact weakly with the BN cluster because of the positive σ-hole on the electronic potential surface of halogens. The X-CN molecules interact somewhat strongly with the boron atoms of the cluster via the N-head, which is accompanied by a large charge transfer from the X-CN to the cluster.

It has been recently indicated that the Li-ion batteries may be replaced by Na-ion batteries because of their low safety, high cost, and low-temperature performance, and lack of the Li mineral reserves. Here, using density functional theory calculations, we studied the potential application of BN nanoclusters as anode in Na-ion batteries. Our calculations indicate that the adsorption energy of Na and Na are about -23.

A quantitative study of solvent effects on photo-physical properties of some azo-salicylaldehyde Schiff Bases ligands, with various substituent and alkyl group, was carried out, at room temperature. The solvatochromic behavior of these substances and their solvent-solute interactions, both specific and non-specific, was analyzed using linear solvation energy relationship concept, suggested by Kamlet-Taft. The ground and excited state dipole moments of these substances and their molecular resonance structures were also evaluated via solvatochromic shift method.

A new and simple approach based on the electrochemical method was used for preparation of reproducible nanostructure thin film of Ni/Fe-layered double hydroxides (Ni/Fe-LDH) on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The electrochemical behavior of the Ni/Fe-LDH deposited on GCE electrode is studied. Study of the scanning electron microscopy shows the formation of a nanostructure thin film on the glassy carbon electrode.

Background: Nickel ferrite, a kind of soft magnetic materials is one of the most attracting class of materials due to its interesting and important properties and has many technical applications, such as in catalysis, sensors and so on. In this paper the synthesis of NiFe2O4 nanoparticles by the hydrothermal method is reported and the inhibition of surfactant (Glycerol or Sodium dodecyl sulfate) on the particles growth is investigated.

Methods: For investigation of the inhibition effect of surfactant on NiFe2O4 particles growth, the samples were prepared in presence of Glycerol and Sodium dodecyl sulfate.

Background: Obesity has been associated with increased mortality from hormone dependant cancers such as breast cancer which is the most prevalent cancer in women. The link between obesity and breast cancer can be attributed to excess estrogen produced through aromatization in adipose tissue. The role of steroid hormone receptors in breast cancer development is well studied but how obesity can affect the expression pattern of steroid hormones in patients with different grades of breast cancer was the aim of this study.

Schiff-Base complexes of bis-5-phenylazosalicylaldehyde ethylenediimine and bis-5-phenylazosalicylaldehyde-O-phenylenediimine ligands with Co(II) (I and II) have been synthesized and characterized by their IR spectra and elemental analyses. These complexes catalyze the oxidation of styrene in the presence of dioxygen and excess pyridine. The effect of the reaction conditions on the oxidation of styrene was studied by varying solvent, nature and amount of the catalyst and substrate.
