The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of novel poloxamer thermosensitive hydrogels (PTHs) formulations for prolonged release of iron dextran particles (IDP) for intramuscular (IM) injection. The thermosensitive behaviour helps to avoid hepcidin overexpression and toxicity by releasing IDPs without iron accumulation in injection or deposit sites. We hypothesized that novel PTH formulation would prolong iron liberation compared to the commercial iron dextran formulation (FEDEX).

However, clinician sampling is often perceived as an uncomfortable procedure that could reduce screening uptake. Self-sampling methods for HPV diagnosis have shown high sensitivity, which could increase acceptance and screening rates among women.

A completely fluoroless ablation approach is achievable using a combination of electroanatomical mapping and intracardiac echocardiography. Nonetheless, data in patients undergoing VT ablation are limited.

This work evaluated in vivo an experimental-multivalent-vaccine (EMV) based on three Porcine Respiratory Complex (PRC)-associated antigens: Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2), (Mhyop) and (Mhyor), microencapsulated with sulfated chitosan (M- ChS + PRC-antigens), postulating chitosan sulphate (ChS) as a mimetic of the heparan sulfate receptor used by these pathogens for cell invasion. The EMV was evaluated physicochemically by SEM (Scanning-Electron-Microscopy), EDS (Energy-Dispersive-Spectroscopy), Pdi (Polydispersity-Index) and zeta potential. Twenty weaned pigs, distributed in four groups, were evaluated for 12 weeks.

Objective: To identify polymorphisms and methylation profiles in the IL10 gene associated with asthma in children aged 5 to 11.
Methods: A case-control study was conducted with asthmatic and non-asthmatic children aged 5 to 11 years in Cuenca-Ecuador.
In January 2023, an active surveillance initiative was undertaken in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, with the specific objective of ascertaining evidence for the presence of avian influenza, and specifically the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus subtype H5N1 (HPAIV H5N1). The investigation encompassed diverse locations, including Hanna Point (Livingston Island), Lions Rump (King George Island), and Base Escudero (King George Island), with targeted observations on marine mammals (southern elephant seals), flying birds (the kelp gull, snowy sheathbill and brown skua), and penguins (the chinstrap penguin and gentoo penguin). The study encompassed the examination of these sites for signs of mass mortality events possibly attributable to HPAIV H5N1, as well as sampling for influenza detection by means of real-time RT-PCR.

We perform phylogenetic analyses to determine the genetic origin and evolution of these viruses, and a serological analysis to determine the level of cross-protective antibodies in the human population.

Bipolar ablation from the coronary veins and adjacent endocardial structures can be effective for refractory LVS arrhythmias.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the outcomes of bipolar ablation performed between the coronary venous system and adjacent endocardial left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) or right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT).
Background: Cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) ablation requires permanent bidirectional block to prevent recurrence of typical atrial flutter (AFL). Catheter irrigation with half-normal saline (HNS) produces larger and deeper lesions in experimental models compared with normal saline (NS). This study was performed to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of HNS vs NS irrigation for typical AFL ablation.

Alongside humans, domestic dogs and cats are also susceptible to infection. However, limited reports on pet infections in Chile prompted a comprehensive study to address this knowledge gap.

Objective: This work's purpose is to develop an LAT mapping approach that does not rely on a time-alignment reference (TAR).
Methods: To create an LAT map in absence of TAR (TARLess), the coordinates and LATs of recording electrodes are collected sequentially; a bank of candidate functions (CFs) is constructed that contains constant binary level CFs and non-linear functions of recording points' coordinates.
Rotavirus A (RVA) is a common cause of diarrhea in newborn pigs, leading to significant economic losses. RVA is considered a major public health concern due to genetic evolution, high prevalence, and pathogenicity in humans and animals. The objective of this study was to identify and characterize RVA in swine farms in Chile.

Vaccination is the primary measure for controlling the disease, but the effectiveness of vaccines can vary depending on the antigenic match between vaccine strains and circulating strains. In Chile, H1N1pdm09 and other lineages H1N2 and H3N2 have been detected in pigs, which are genetically distinct from the strains included in commercial vaccines.

Between December 9, 2022 - March 14, 2023, a coordinated government/academic response detected HPAIV by real-time RT-PCR in 8.5% (412/4735) of samples from 23 avian and 3 mammal orders.

Simultaneously, an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 (HPAIV H5N1) in avian species has emerged since December 2022. To investigate the cause of this unexpected mortality, we conducted a comprehensive epidemiological and pathologic study.

Noteworthy, most studies assessing the interaction between nicotine and social reward have used isolated-reared rats. Adolescent isolation is an adverse condition that impacts brain development and behavior, so it is not known if the interaction also occurs in rats without social deprivation.
