Article Synopsis
  • Female athletes are more vulnerable to sport-related concussions (SRCs) and tend to experience worse outcomes compared to male athletes, but research on the reasons is limited.
  • A systematic review analyzed data from various studies to identify factors contributing to severe concussions in female athletes, highlighting lower tolerance for head impacts and potential hormonal influences.
  • The review found that while females are more likely to report their concussions, there is still underreporting, which can lead to untreated cases and exacerbated symptoms.
