In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Oklahoma Hudson College of Public Health launched the Achieving a Healthy Oklahoma (AHO) initiative in 2021. The goals of AHO were to assess lessons learned in Oklahoma from COVID-19 and set the foundation for enhanced public-private community collaboration by developing recommendations to prepare for future public health crises and promote health across all major economic sectors. Over 700 stakeholders were engaged in surveys, interviews, workgroup meetings, community listening sessions, and steering committee meetings over 8 months to accomplish these goals.

This study describes the design of the process evaluation of a collaborative effort among community partners to address health issues in central Oklahoma. The design is an application of a sound process evaluation planning framework that integrates the components of context, reach, dose delivered, dose received, fidelity, implementation, recruitment, barriers, and maintenance. The planning framework also provides guidance regarding the steps of designing and implementing the process evaluation.

This article is based on a white paper commissioned by the Directors of Health Promotion and Education, a national organization representing state health agency directors and practitioners in health promotion and education initiatives. The work reflects an assessment of current understanding of how state-level policy makers receive and use information related to health promotion and chronic disease prevention. Although health education practitioners are routinely encouraged to use policy and environmental change strategies, a systematic approach to communication with policy leaders is not readily available.

A National Public Health Education Leadership Institute was developed through collaboration among national health education professional organizations, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and a school of public health. The institute provides health educators in leadership positions throughout the country access to a 15-month integrated and sequential professional leadership development program. This article presents a conceptual model and competency framework for that program.
