The removal of dental plaque from the gingival margins of the teeth is essential to maintaining periodontal health. Whilst it has been established that electric toothbrushes demonstrate a greater ability to remove plaque, no systematic review has specifically investigated which technology is better for removing plaque from the interdental tooth surfaces, where plaque control may be more difficult. Three databases were searched until October 2023: MEDLINE and DOSSS via EBSCOhost and Embase.

Directed conservation of the world's reef sharks and rays.

Many shark populations are in decline around the world, with severe ecological and economic consequences. Fisheries management and marine protected areas (MPAs) have both been heralded as solutions. However, the effectiveness of MPAs alone is questionable, particularly for globally threatened sharks and rays ('elasmobranchs'), with little known about how fisheries management and MPAs interact to conserve these species.

Widespread diversity deficits of coral reef sharks and rays.

A global survey of coral reefs reveals that overfishing is driving resident shark species toward extinction, causing diversity deficits in reef elasmobranch (shark and ray) assemblages. Our species-level analysis revealed global declines of 60 to 73% for five common resident reef shark species and that individual shark species were not detected at 34 to 47% of surveyed reefs. As reefs become more shark-depleted, rays begin to dominate assemblages.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore oral health experiences and priorities in a diverse group of adults aged over 60 in North West England, an area with high oral health inequality.

Methods: Participants were selected using purposive sample from multiple settings across the North West: community, primary dental care and residential care home. Data were collected between October 2018 and March 2019 and involved eight focus groups and three individual interviews with a total of 47 participants.

This is a qualitative semi-structured interview study using an interpretative phenomenology (IP) framework.

Support workers are an "invisible" part of the health sector often working during pandemics to support clients. This meta-ethnography screened 167 articles out of 211 results identifying 4 qualitative studies that explored the support worker's experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Redundancy approach" was used to map non-essential criteria and the analysis was informed by the interpretative meta-ethnography method.

Clinical decision-making in complex endodontic cases between postgraduate students across dental specialties at a UK dental school: A pilot study.

Introduction: Treatment decisions for a heavily restored endodontically treated tooth vary amongst clinicians owing to multitude of factors. This phenomenon not only often poses dilemmas to clinicians of different clinical backgrounds, but also exerts a degree of treatment difficulty to the treating clinician. Previous studies indicated that specialty training and clinical experience significantly impacted clinical decision-making process.

Decades of overexploitation have devastated shark populations, leaving considerable doubt as to their ecological status. Yet much of what is known about sharks has been inferred from catch records in industrial fisheries, whereas far less information is available about sharks that live in coastal habitats. Here we address this knowledge gap using data from more than 15,000 standardized baited remote underwater video stations that were deployed on 371 reefs in 58 nations to estimate the conservation status of reef sharks globally.

The precise trafficking routes followed by newly synthesized lysosomal membrane proteins after exit from the Golgi are unclear. To study these events we created a novel chimera (YAL) having a lumenal domain comprising two tyrosine sulfation motifs fused to avidin, and the transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains of lysosome associated membrane protein 1 (Lamp1). The newly synthesized protein rapidly transited from the trans- Golgi Network (TGN) to lysosomes (t(1/2) approximately 30 min after a lag of 15-20 min).
