Background And Aim: This cross-sectional, community-based study examined the association of dietary intake of pregnant Emirati women and their pre-pregnancy body mass index (pBMI) with maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Methods: The study was conducted at tertiary hospitals in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where 323 pregnant women reported their weekly dietary intake using the Arabic version of the food frequency questionnaire. Dietary patterns (DPs) were established using factor analysis of consumed foods followed by cluster analysis.

Background: Oral cancer, particularly mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC), presents diagnostic challenges due to its histological diversity and rarity. This study aimed to develop machine learning (ML) models to predict survival outcomes for MEC patients and pioneer a clinically accessible prognostic tool.

Methods: Using the SEER database (2000-2020), we constructed predictive models with five ML algorithms: Random Forest Classifier (RFC), Gradient Boosting Classifier (GBC), Logistic Regression (LR), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP).

Purpose: The United States criminal legal system has a long-standing and well-documented history of perpetuating racial disparities in health and well-being through inequitable policing, sentencing, and incarceration practices. In the last decade, the criminal legal system has re-considered their response to women arrested for solicitation via sex trafficking specialty courts.

Methods: The current study leverages publicly available data from one large Midwestern county to explore the presence of racial disparities within women's referral to, election to participate in, and success within one specialty court program for women in the sex trade.

The term "microbiome" refers to the collection of bacterial species that reside in the human body's tissues. Sometimes, it is used to refer to all microbial entities (bacteria, viruses, fungi, and others) which colonize the human body. It is now generally acknowledged that the microbiome plays a critical role in the host's physiological processes and general well-being.

A well-defined α,ω-dialdehyde polyisoprene-b-polystyrene block copolymer, synthesized using anionic polymerization high-vacuum techniques, is employed to prepare vitrimers with tris(2-aminoethyl)amine as the cross-linking agent. The vitrimer network, featuring dynamic imine cross-links, results in robust, flexible, and solvent-resistant films, which are applicable in thin film composite membranes. These vitrimer membranes, with molecular weight cut-offs in the nanofiltration range, are successfully used for organic solvent separation and evaluated for gas separation.

Background: Understanding the hierarchy in medical education is considered one of the hidden curriculum agendas that help to guide the medical trainees throughout their careers in healthcare. However, many negative aspects to the hierarchy and a few positive aspects have been uncovered in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic had a tremendous impact on the healthcare system, deploying healthcare workers, including trainees from their primary speciality training to help caring for COVID-19 patients.

This study has provided new insights into the interaction between graphene and DNA nucleobases (adenine, cytosine, and guanine). It compares how each nucleobase interacts with graphene, examining their selectivity and binding energy. The research also explores how these interactions impact the electronic properties of graphene, showing potential applications in graphene-based biosensors and DNA sequencing technologies.

This paper presents a comprehensive framework for mission planning and execution with a heterogeneous multi-robot system, specifically designed to coordinate unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in dynamic and unstructured environments. The proposed architecture evaluates the mission requirements, allocates tasks, and optimizes resource usage based on the capabilities of the available robots. It then executes the mission utilizing a decentralized control strategy that enables the robots to adapt to environmental changes and maintain formation stability in both 2D and 3D spaces.

Objective: Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase-1 (IDO1) is a promising antitumor target and predictive biomarker in a variety of cancers. Hence, we performed this meta-analysis to evaluate the clinicopathological and prognostic significance of IDO1 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Scopus databases from inception to May 2024, to identify studies measuring the clinicopathological and prognostic significance of IDO1 in HNSCC.

Introduction: Central aortic pressure waveform analyses can provide clinically relevant information beyond conventional brachial blood pressure (BP) assessment. This waveform can be reproduced noninvasively through application of a generalized transfer function (GTF) on a peripheral waveform, as conventionally performed by applanation tonometry. Photoplethysmography (PPG) is an alternate approach; however, differences in measurement site and modality demand the use of a transfer function (TF) specific for those differences.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on adapting and validating the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale-Third Edition (GARS-3) for Arabic-speaking populations, a response to the lack of culturally appropriate diagnostic tools for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Arab world.
  • A thorough methodology was applied, including translation, expert reviews, and pilot testing, using a sample of 178 participants from Saudi Arabia to ensure the Arabic version (A-GARS-3) is reliable and valid.
  • The results showed that the A-GARS-3 has high internal consistency and strong construct validity, making it a reliable tool for assessing ASD in Arabic-speaking individuals and enhancing early diagnostic practices in these regions.

  • The study examined TGCp-tACS effects on older adults compared to younger participants, using tasks to measure WM performance and assessing brain activity through electroencephalography (EEG).
  • Results showed that TGCp-tACS negatively impacted WM performance in older adults, while younger individuals improved in some tasks, indicating that age-related brain changes affect the modulation of WM via theta-gamma coupling.

  • - This study investigates the risk of liver cancer in cirrhotic patients with indeterminate liver nodules, aiming to identify potential predictors for developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • - Over a seven-year follow-up of 116 patients, 16% developed HCC, with significant associations found between HCC incidence and factors like smoking, nodule size over 2 cm, and specific LI-RADS scores.
  • - The results highlight a concerning trend, with up to 30% of patients at risk for HCC after seven years, emphasizing the need for more intensive monitoring and clearer management strategies for these patients.

  • - The study aims to compare the long-term functional outcomes and quality of life in patients with early glottic cancer treated with transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) versus radiotherapy (RT) by reviewing existing literature.
  • - Results indicated no significant differences between TLM and RT regarding vocal function gradation, voice handicap scores, or fundamental frequency, although TLM performed better in measures like jitter and shimmer.
  • - The authors concluded that while TLM shows some advantages in acoustic outcomes, overall evidence remains limited, heterogeneous, and biased, highlighting the need for larger randomized controlled trials for clearer insights.

Working memory (WM) is essential for the temporary storage and processing of information required for complex cognitive tasks and relies on neuronal theta and gamma oscillations. Given the limited capacity of WM, researchers have investigated various methods to improve it, including transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), which modulates brain activity at specific frequencies. One particularly promising approach is theta-gamma peak-coupled-tACS (TGCp-tACS), which simulates the natural interaction between theta and gamma oscillations that occurs during cognitive control in the brain.
