The efficiency of oleogel as an oral delivery vehicle of probiotics depends on the chemical composition and gelator used. However, the gelators, which are surfactant in nature often interact with the probiotics and alter the therapeutic outcome. Keeping this perspective in mind, here we have developed oleogel of sunflower oil containing 5% (w/w) of sunflower wax and different emulsifiers, namely Span80 (S), Tween 80(T), stearyl alcohol (SA), and Span60 (SP), and checked their influence on probiotics in-vitro.

Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) present a substantial global health burden, with tobacco use as a major risk factor. While extensive research has identified several risk factors for CVDs, there is a gap in predictive models that account for a combination of clinical factors, lifestyle factors, and other determinants in order to predict CVD risk. In addition, existing studies tend to overlook the interactions among risk factors within high-risk populations, such as tobacco users.

Keloids are pathological scars that form due to abnormal wound healing, characterized by an overgrowth of collagen. They develop beyond the sites of the original lesion and have a high recurrence rate, are cosmetically deforming, can cause irritation, physical discomfort, and psychological stress, and frequently impact the quality of life. Despite an array of therapeutic approaches, both surgical and non-surgical, no solutions have been able to offer long-term relief.

Background: Populations facing severe and multiple disadvantage (SMD), co-occurring homelessness, substance use and repeat offending have high levels of physical and mental ill-health. Poor oral health is one of the most common health problems in this population and is closely linked with substance use, smoking and poor diet. Issues related to the implementation of interventions among SMD populations to address oral health and related health behaviours are poorly understood.

Purpose: Primary barriers to application of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy for cancer include severe side effects (such as potentially life threatening pneumonitis [PN]), which can cause the discontinuation of treatment. Predicting which patients may develop PN while on ICI would improve both safety and potential efficacy because treatments could be safely administered for longer or discontinued before severe toxicity.

Methods: Starting from a cohort of 3,351 patients with cancer who received previous ICI therapy at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, we curated 2,700 contrast chest computed tomography (CT) volumes for 671 patients.

Background: Severe lumbar radiculopathy pain during pregnancy requiring surgical intervention poses significant risks to foetal and maternal health from use of potentially teratogenic general anaesthetic drugs, prone positioning and intra-operative radiation from fluoroscopy.

Case Report: A 28-year-old 14 weeks primigravida patient suffering from severe lumbar radiculopathy due to right sided L5-S1disc herniation was offered a discectomy procedure after failed conservative treatment. A multidisciplinary team including anaesthetists, gynaecologist, radiologist and spine surgeon was constituted.

(Mtb) has evolved to be exquisitely adapted to survive within host macrophages. The capacity to damage the phagosomal membrane has emerged as central to Mtb virulence. While Mtb factors driving membrane damage have been described, host factors that maintain phagosomal integrity or repair Mtb-induced damage to contain the pathogen remain largely unknown.

Biofilm is an assemblage of microorganisms embedded within the extracellular matrix that provides mechanical stability, nutrient absorption, antimicrobial resistance, cell-cell interactions, and defence against host immune system. Various biomolecules such as lipids, carbohydrates, protein polymers (amyloid), and eDNA are present in the matrix playing significant role in determining the distinctive properties of biofilm. The formation of biofilms contributes to resistance against antimicrobial therapy in most of the human infections and exacerbates existing diseases.

Certain medicinal plants utilized in the traditional ayurvedic system are poisonous when used raw, but are used following a detoxification process. The Ayurvedic Formulary of India (AFI) provides details about these detoxification (known as "sodhana") processes as per traditional procedures. This research endeavor aimed to uncover the fundamental principles underlying the detoxification approach applied to , commonly referred to as "swet chitrak", in which plumbagin is the primary toxic constituent.

Background: Severe and multiple disadvantage (SMD) is the combined effect of experiencing homelessness, substance use and repeat offending. People experiencing SMD have high burden of physical and mental health issues. Oral health is one of the most common health problems in people experiencing SMD which interacts with substance use, smoking, and unhealthy diet to create a cycle of harm and disadvantage.

Interocclusal registration is an essential step in oral rehabilitation. Conventionally, interocclusal registration has been conducted using interocclusal records made of wax or silicone. However, a digital method of registration utilizing an intraoral scanner has been introduced for analyzing inter-arch relationships.

Cysteine (Cys) detection is recognized as an essential element in this investigation due to the critical function of Cys in several physiological processes in living organisms. A new NIR fluorescent probe SNC-Cys has been synthesized by incorporating a five-membered malononitrile derivatized ring as an electron withdrawing group, and a methacryloyl group detection moiety for cysteine. After adding Cys, SNC-Cys shows an emission of 654 nm and further works as a "Turn-on" probe via ICT photomechanism.

Article Synopsis
  • * CANVAS, a neurodegenerative disorder, is specifically associated with the expansion of the (AAGGG) repeat in the RFC1 gene, but its exact pathological mechanisms are not fully understood.
  • * Recent findings suggest that GQ structures formed by these repeats may contribute to toxic protein-related mechanisms in CANVAS, as they affect RNA processing and interact with key RNA-binding proteins, ultimately guiding future therapeutic strategies.

The development of new technologies in implant dentistry has led to the introduction of piezosurgery, which utilizes ultrasonic vibrations for micrometric and selective bone cutting. It is hypothesized to reduce trauma to bone tissue, thereby potentially improving the healing process compared to traditional drilling methods. This systematic review examines the differences in heat generation and pain perception between piezosurgery and conventional drilling techniques for dental implant placement.

Trauma can be both a cause and a consequence of homelessness and has lasting impacts on mental health and wellbeing. Often research focusses on trauma and adversity in childhood leading to homelessness, but understanding traumatic experiences during adulthood homelessness can be just as important for informing intervention development and policies to mitigate and eradicate homelessness. Working with people with lived experience of homelessness, this review aimed to synthesis the qualitative evidence exploring the impact of trauma during homelessness on mental health (including substance use) from the perspective of adults (18 years of age and older) experiencing homelessness.

The aim of this umbrella systematic review is to evaluate the success rate and osseointegration of dental implants in patients with a smoking habit. Electronic database searches of PubMed/Medline, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and EBSCOhost were done from 2006 until August 2024, using medical subject headings (MeSH) terms. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRMAs) investigating the association between smoking and the rate of success of dental implants based on dental implant failure, marginal bone loss, survival, and peri-implant parameters were deemed eligible.
