Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent (TADF) luminophores offer the potential to achieve 100% Internal Quantum Efficiency (IQE) by harvesting both singlet and triplet excitons reverse intersystem crossing from T to S. This class of molecules has therefore been embraced in the pursuit of cheaper and more efficient electrochemiluminescent (ECL) labels. The present study explores how tuning the electron-donating (D) and -accepting (A) strengths of peripheral substituents affects the ECL emission of mono- and dicyanoarene-based TADF dyes.

Background: Sustained clinical complete remissions were reported in all of 23 mismatch repair deficient/microsatellite instable (dMMR/MSI) locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients treated with dostarlimab alone in a recent phase II study. These results led to off-label use of dostarlimab or other immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in dMMR/MSI-LARC even before regulatory approval. The present study [STAR(t)-IT-REDUCE] describes the outcome of dMMR/MSI-LARC patients treated with ICI in Italy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the relationship between penile curvature and dynamic CDDU parameters in men with Peyronie's disease, highlighting inconsistent data regarding measurement inaccuracies.
  • Data were collected from 154 men, measuring penile curvature during maximum erection and classifying CDDU results into normal or pathological based on specific velocity and resistance index values.
  • Results indicated no significant correlation between the degree of penile curvature and average peak systolic velocity, suggesting that curvature severity does not impact CDDU parameters significantly.

Aims: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a serious consequence of a myocardial infarction (MI), but identifying patients at risk of developing SCD remains a major clinical challenge, especially in the case of juvenile MI. The aim of this study is to identify predictors of SCD after early-onset MI using long-term follow-up data relating to a large nationwide patient cohort.

Methods And Results: The Italian Genetic Study on Early-onset MI enrolled 2000 patients experiencing a first MI before the age of 45 years, who were followed up for a median of 19.

Excited states of radical anions derived from the photoreduction of stable organic molecules are suggested to serve as potent reductants. However, excited states of these species are too short-lived to allow bimolecular quenching processes. Recently, the singlet excited state of Meisenheimer complexes, which possess a long-lived excited state, was identified as the competent species for the reduction of challenging organic substrates (-2.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) in 3224 men facing idiopathic infertility to see how it correlates with other health and semen parameters.
  • Out of the men evaluated, 23% had abnormal semen parameters, and 52.7% of those with idiopathic infertility had SDF values considered pathologic (≥30%).
  • The results indicated that men with higher SDF values were generally older, had higher FSH and HOMA-IR levels, and lower testosterone, sperm concentration, and motility compared to those with normal SDF values.

Background And Objective: No clear-cut markers for predicting positive sperm retrieval (+SR) at microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) have been identified thus far. Our aim was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the ability of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), inhibin B (InhB), and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) to predict +SR in men with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) undergoing mTESE.

Methods: We performed a search in the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis statement.

Room temperature phosphorescence rarely occurs from pure organic molecules, especially in the solid-state. A strategy for the design of highly emissive organic phosphors is still hard to predict, thus impeding the development of new functional materials with the desired optical properties. Herein, we analyze a family of alkyl and aryl-substituted persulfurated benzenes, the latter representing a class of organic solid-state triplet emitters able to show very high emission quantum yield at room temperature.

Donor-acceptor dyads based on BODIPYs have been recently employed to enhance the formation of triplet excited states with the process of spin-orbit charge transfer intersystem crossing (SOCT-ISC) which does not require introduction of transition metals or other heavy atoms into the molecule. In this work we compare two donor-acceptor dyads based on meso-naphthalenyl BODIPY by combining experimental and computational investigations. The photophysical and electrochemical characterization reveals a significant effect of alkylation of the BODIPY core, disfavoring the SOCT-ISC mechanism for the ethylated BODIPY dyad.
