December 2023
Background: The onset and characteristics of chronic pain following an intensive care unit (ICU) stay for COVID-19 have never been thoroughly investigated.
Study Design: A multicenter cohort study was conducted to describe chronic pain, according to ICD-11, among COVID-19 survivors. The chronic pain was assessed during face-to-face consultations with a pain specialist.
Western medicine developed on the concept of the dichotomy between the body and mind, with an approach which targets the diseased organ. This mechanistic vision, while it has proved itself, has often ignored the mind and has consequently resulted in the care aspect being neglected. Integrating body-mind practices, which have indisputably proven their effectiveness, enables a more holistic vision of patient care to evolve.
